Hmm not sure about paintings but hanging a clock I know. It may be
similar you can try it.

1. Place small table no 1
2. Place small table no 2 on top
3. Place 6 gold coins on table 2
4. Place Painting on coins
5. Lock down painting
6. Remove table 1 then table 2 then the gold. (order is important)

Well as I said it works for painting.

Oh and don't forget you can always hide under the bed

This is how I do it, though there might be an easier way: Pick up the
painting and aim your "pointy finger" at the edge where the floor and
wall meet and let go. This method won't work if there is furniture on
that tile. Takes several tries, but eventually it'll stick to the wall
(don't forget to lock it down). Also, make sure the painting is facing
at the same direction as your wall, i.e. 'a painting facing east' won't
go on a south-faced wall.

Good luck.

Hi tom,

Make sure there is no furniture or any boxes blocking the
area. Just lay the painting against the wall (may have to
fidget around a little). It will clomp on like a kitchen
magnet to a fridge. LOCK it down to secure it. Replace
furniture. Stand back and enjoy.

Have Fun!

If its a small painting, use a table (NOT LOCKED DOWN) and then place the
painting on top of the table... Lock down the painting. Remove the table
and the painting will be hung.

I had trouble hanging my paintings using chests..... it went the first time
using the table.

To make the "the edge where the floor and wall meet" you could use a
small table, place the table, then place the painting on top of that
table (the paiting will be to high now) remove the table and the
painting will "fall" into place.
