I assume this new patch also included some calculation to drop your
stamina when you do various things, like swing weapons or get hit? I'll
have to check their webpage I guess.

Was fighting an orc mage in Hythloth last night. With my plate on, I
still have 51 stamina. After 2 halberd swings, and 3 of those Rapid-Fire
FAST explosion type spells from the mage, I tried to step back to
Greater Heal one more time. Nope, my stamina was at 0. Too fatigued.
Needless to say, I ended up dead. Anyone know what this is about? Seems
like too heavy a stamina loss to me. During that quick fight, I noticed
a 20pt stamina drop on one explosion hit. My thanks to Godman and
Venture who gathered my posessions, gated me to Skara, and waited while
I got ressed. Meeting new galant folks like that in the game is one of
the things that continually makes up for the thieves that steal from you
while you're fighting a lich. Thanks guys.

I'm still miffed about the stamina loss....this could make close contact
sword fighting deadly against many monsters.

I have a low dex of 26. Sometimes I get a stamina drop just standing there.

Not yet.

I've always lost stamina from taking damage. Usually just a little.
My guess is that you were cursed or weakened, lost strength and were
therefore overloaded, so as soon as you tried to move ... *zap*, no
stamina for you.

>Needless to say, I ended up dead.

I think the Hythloth orc mages are tougher than the wilderness orc
mages. The other night I had one do explosion on me twice in a row.
OoOoooOO. Then going back to get my gear, I'm thinking this guy is
out of mana *now*.... turns out "this guy" was a *different* Orc Mage
and he had no problem with the ol' explosion-explosion combo either.
oOOoOooOOoO.

Greater Refresh Potions.

My problem with melee combat is the rubber-band bouncy trip lag thing.

On my end it looked like you were moving through the Orc Mage. I don't
suppose you ever got that message, but I have had similar things happen to me.

Godman did the gating; Venture-LS has Magery 35....;-)

<anecdote>

The day started out with me pulling into Skara Brae after a walrus-
clubbing expedition to Arctic Island. I'd just bought the Veritas (my ship)
and had less than a thousand gold left; hunting walruses was a good risk-free
way of raising my bank account. They die easy, they have 12 hides each, I
could practice spells on them, and PKs never bother with anything as gauche as
ships so I was perfectly safe at all times.

I walked up to the bank to deposit my earnings, and spotted Dundee and
Shade forming a party. After Shade dealt with a bit of a technical problem,
they offered to let me join them on their next run...to Hythloth.

I, uh, politely declined. Venture-LS had died three times the day before
(all lag deaths, and dodged a PK in the process), and that was enough for a
while.

But then, after they left, I figured "what the hell".....

Literally.

I stabled my horse, hopped on the Veritas and sailed down to Hythloth to
see if I could run into them. Sure, there was a snowball's chance in hell of
success, and it was incredibly dangerous, but it'd be worth it to see how
surprised they would be if I pulled it off. I sailed by dead reckoning (still
haven't bought a sextant) and only had to dodge four or five Water Elementals
and a Sea Serpent to get there. I found a spot to moor the Veritas just in
front of Hytholth, and plunged in.

Not even Neophyte Mage.

Adept Fencer.

Expert Warrior.

Apprentice Archer.

I killed a Giant Rat and a Slime in the foyer, then went down.
Immediately got jumped by a pair of Orc Mages and a pair of Ettins. Ran past
them down the hall...into another swarm of Orcs, eight or nine of them. Ran
past THEM and ended up hiding in the room with the steel cages. Hid there for
a while, contemplating my imminent demise (no, I couldn't Recall out), when
the Orcs locked on to someone else (who I never actually saw) and I made a
break for it. I made it most of the way down the hall before being pinned by
the Ettins and an Orc or two. Thought I was dead, but spotted an opening and
managed to run through back to the entrance. After recovering a few hit
points I lured one of the Ettins upstairs and killed it with Archery, getting
a Helm of Defense for my efforts. That's when Godman and Glaeken showed up.
They dragged a few more Orcs upstairs, including at least one mage, which the
three of us finished off. We went downstairs, finished off some more Orcs,
including another mage, and cleared a room with a bunch of Orcs and Giant
Rats.

Then we followed Godman down a level, and stopped just outside a room full
of Orcs of various types and at least one Ettin. They'd mostly locked on to
Godman, so he ran by the door to draw a few of them over. We got two or three
Orcs, including yet another mage, and the Ettin. The mage ended up locking on
to Glaeken and killing him before we could kill it. We mopped up, and Godman
gated us back to Skara Brae. After returning Glaeken's goods, Godman was
ready to GO BACK AND DO IT AGAIN!!!

We declined.

That only left one lose end: the Veritas was still moored outside the
entrance to Hythloth. I hit a vendor on Skara Brae for some Recall scrolls,
but couldn't find any with a Hythloth rune. So I went jumping through the
moongates, trying the vendors near them, without luck. (I did see a tent and
(empty) vendor expire near the Moonglow gate, though.) I ended up at the
Britain gate, and decided to travel overland to Rivendell and try the vendors
there and along the way. As I approached the crossroads, checking vendors,
someone popped up on the edge of the screen. I hit AllNames, saw grey, went
to DefCon 2...then caught the name.

Hassan al-Nassir.

Stand down.

We exchanged a few words, then I moved on. There was some kind of
brouhaha getting started and I had no business being there. I arrived in
Rivendell.

And remembered the rune library.

*You see Venture kicking himself in the head...repeatedly.*

Bamfed down to Hythloth, boarded the Veritas, and sailed home. End of a
long night. I never did meet up with Dundee and Shade again, obviously, but
it was a heck of a trip nevertheless.
