Now this is something I used to think was a great goal to aim for and one to
work very very hard to obtain over along period of time.
Now of the 3 people I have seen in the last 48hrs, 2 have been adept stoics
and the 3rd a master swordsman :(
Surely one would expect the characters to have atleast acheived some sort of
decent template. Rather than pure camping in fame gain areas.
Personally I believe it is currently way to easy to obtain the final
fame/karma level and would hope OSI will do something to make this harder to
reach.

Fame levels always have been, and probably always will be, a joke. If you
do anything besides farm high-fame monsters--PvP, do crafts, whatever--you
will never make the higher levels of fame. And if you do farm the
high-fame monsters, it's easy to make.
I wouldn't worry about seeing low-skilled characters with high fame
levels--since fame means absolutely nothing unless you personally make
it out to be important, it doesn't have to make a difference.
(Though I do wish OSI would code in an option to let people choose to
display their titles)

I don't see this happening because preying on people who want cheap titles
means $10/month to OSI. Doesn't bother me too much. The ones that used to be
noto killers and EV other blues were a PIA, but current crop of fame whores
are mostly just looking to stroke their fragile egos IMO.
Lot's of easy fame now. Barding gives fame again, so you just have to stand
somewhere safe and have two+ monsters. I think about all you need is
dragons<destard> or dragons and deamons<Wind> to get Glorious in about a
weekend. There are also some cheesy spots where you can bard from where
monsters can't reach you.
I won't say deamons are easy kills, but trivial with 3 mages. OSI messed
with karma/fame in groups, so all you have to do is not group. The Wind
deamon spawn is really out of control, dozens of them. I would imagine any
group of ~3 characters with decent magery could kill 100 or so in a good
night.
There was also a big cheese in Deamon Temple. The deamons spawned in the
fire pits where they couldn't get out. There were a couple of places both in
the area and on top of the temple where you could drop EVs on them. Been
shut off now, but I saw the same group of people on the roof everytime I
went there over about a one month period.
I have seen adept tamers that made illustrious. All they do is have a friend
to supply them with nightmares and ride them into Wind and knock off a bunch
of easy kills like liches.

So let your anatomy drop to 99.something. Oh, can anybody verufy

Youre forgetting one very important thing! When farming demons in groups,
you split the karma and fame. In fact once you reach illustrious you recieve
very littel ( if any ) karma and fame from demons ( or any high level
creatures for that matter ) when hunting in groups. I kill demons alone in
the lower level of Hyloth. And thats with my GM miner magery only 93. I
farmed them for hours hoping to reach illustrious. After all back when I
started I saw all those ppl runnign around with their gm status displayed
and I wanted it too. Didnt know you had to be at least illustrious for that
to be displayed. Now Im glorious and I want to be a lord. So Ill be farming
again soon. Gotta get my back stock for my vendors set first.

Titans spawn inside the titan valley safe spot.

I can only agree with that and a long time ago, i started to judge people from
their behaviour and not from their fame and karma. Fame has no meaning for me
(and if it had, it would be a negative meaning). The same is with order and
chaos. Not that i have seen enough people from order-guilds as blue PK's or blue
healers for pk's, but also nearly all members of my former order-guild (which i
left, because of their behaviour, i.e. another member killed a friend of me at a
decaying house, while i was there with a different char) are now in a
chaos-guild. I can remember a order-char, asking at the moonglow graveyard, if
somebody would help him to carry some logs from his house to the moonglow bank
and i said, i would help him. I stayed outside, when he entered his (not public)
house. He got then some logs and put them onto ground, so i could take, but only
100 and told me, to help him, getting them outta house. I didn't entered the
house and he also didn't came outside. After staying for 10 minutes (watching
screen and eating), i left in direction of the moonglow bank and waited for some
more minutes and then put the logs into my bank and left.
We discussed the topic of the choice, to show the title without fame (specially
for worker-chars), here some time ago and i still have to join Ian with my wish,
that osi should implement it.

Liches dispel EV's and only take you to illustrious anyway. *SNORT*
To have dragons obey you enough to be worth it you need 80/80 really. "All
protect me" is not a valid command (its "All guard me").
The problem of fame being too easy to get now comes simply from ogre lords.
On the morning of the dungeon changes, I was looking round and was one of
the first on my shard to find the ogre lord spawn in despise... being there
most the afternoon almost on my own (besides other people taking a look) i
made from admirable to glorious lord in less than about 5 hours (possibly
closer to 4 hours, oh and about 100k+) JUST from blade spiriting ogre lords.
The amount of people just going there with their blade spirit scrolls so
they can become lord is stupid. There are queues longer than Tesco's deli
counter on pension day to take turns for them! I've seen a scribe down
there macroing "SELLING BLADE SPIRIT SCROLLS!" - this guy obviously knows a
good thing when he sees it :o\
It can be funny some of the times, but mostly its annoying having the
newbies there thinking they're good because they've got a high fame title,
so they start the "HA! I OWN YOUR ASS!" junk, and end up causing more agro.
Still, OSI wont do anything as they're making their newbie customers happy,
and earning more $10's a month, so who are they to care...

This was before UO:R though, and now trade characters have a choice to stay
in Trammel where it's safe, theres no point in having their title withheld.
So I go along with the idea of displaying peoples titles once again.

The main place I agree does seems to be Despise for Ogre Lords. Personally
I like to run round there with my bard, only problem is theres usually some
Glorious Lord Adept Cook using 7 Bladespirits on 1 Ogre Lord :(
And that unfortunatley lags me out to ooo000ooo
(Still havent figured out why 2 or 3 blades cause me to lag/freeze. Seems
it happens to a few other people)
The money and fame/karma gains are good there, but little fun, and the
queues like u say.....lol
ps Spooky note. I was talking to a friend last night about despise and said

You nailed it so spot-on. My tamer, until yesterday, has been only
Commendable, and is now Famed again. This is from a very long, lonely,
boring run as a Glorious Lady. Know what? title like that makes me wuss
out and guard it, because quite frankly, camping the high fame spots like
LL's and Hyth demons means you need to hang around others seeking high fame,
and some of them are the lowest critters you'll ever run into in UO. So it
goes that losing that fame is painful in many ways to get back. Finally
after watching my guildmates disappointed and generally in pissy moods
because the guild tamer never seemed to be available for backup on hunts, I
said screw it.
Famed. Funny thing about tamers it that if you tame, especially stuff that
gm tamers are prone to tame, you are GONNA die. Alot. And really brutally
often times. Taken out by 2 wyverns and 2 dragons, oh the combinations are
endless. But the thing is now, usually when I die its from laughing so hard
that I've gotten myself into some silly situation that led to my downfall in
the firstplace. I tend to cut other people slack in finishing kills or
missing a heal on me that may lead to me getting cut down. It's okay and it
all gets back to just playing the game the way you want.
My advice, forget about fame, or those of you seeking that title, get it,
get screenshots, then get back to having fun. For me high fame was more of
a shackle like jgd1 talks about and not worth it beyond just showing off. I
still have a Dread Lord character who was my first on Wakoku when it opened.
Know how much I play him? Not at all, which is a shame since he's a master
provoker, gm mace/tacs, and has very good resist and magery to boot.
Although I may have to break out bardboy soon, alot of bards on Wakoku are
finding out that they can 'own' tamers in Destard so there have been some
heated moments as of late. Alot of them think its great fun to provoke
something, anything really, onto that dragon you've been working on for the
last 15 minutes, or just flat out attacking it. I won't go into details but
lets say the tamer crowd has been showing the bards a trick or 2 lately. =P
>The main place I agree does seems to be Despise for Ogre Lords. Personally

I used to like going there at first. Now it's wall to wall butt lords.
I was there like friday. Off in the left corner fighting an ogre lord with
my mage to get some cash. Along comes a guy who we'll call Asspiper. I
can't remember his name. doesn't matter.
<Ass piper cast blade spirit on my ogre lord I'm fighting>
Asspiper: Don't say shit.
Me: Excuse me?
Asspiper: I said don't say shit. Fuck you and your glorius fame.
Me: Um. ok. *Checks watch* looks like school just got out.
Asspiper: Yeah
<Ogre lord dies>
<Asspiper ties to loot>
Asspiper: I CANT LOOT
<I get the loot>
Me: Yeah.
<Recall>
They only dispell when they have the mana for it. They are kind of fragile
anyway, 2 flame strikes and an ebolt kills over half of them. If you have
high EI, just a couple of mana drains and an EV do the trick. I pretty much
use the EI/EV thing with my mage against anything that can dispell. Against
a deamon, just being a punching bag for their spells and dropping an EV when
they run out of reagents is a good cheap way of killing them vs 20 or so
flame strikes. Ditto for dragons. I use EVs for orc mages too, favorite
spell.
> The problem of fame being too easy to get now comes simply from ogre
lords.
The problem with fame is giving a shit, just don't. Somewhere along the line
<it could have been EQ getting released or it could have been an independant
insight at OSI> OSI realized a lot of people have their egos tied up in
their in game titles so they decided to pander to it.
OSI did clean up some of the obvious exploits like the lich lord pit in
Deciet, but they added fame and karma up the kazoo for things like liches
and spread the high fame and karma monsters around like wandering healers.
Since it is a commercial game, you can't argue with success. They got that
market segment playing the game at $10 a pop. The 'purist' who object to it
are a smaller market segment then the people who do it.
Your ogre lord obviously came from a treasure map.
I'm not saying there wasnt any problems at all with fame before, but what I
AM saying is that it has got ALOT worse since the dungeon changes, and ogre
lords now spawning alot more frequently, and that it is purely the ogre
lords that are doing this. ALL OSI would need to do is reduce ogre lord
fame/karma to rougly that of liches, and half (if not more) of the problem
will end.

I'd say you're wrong. Fame whoring has been a part of the game for a very
long time. The Ogre Lords in Despise just made it easier.
Before the AI patch, people used to camp the Titans up in T2A, they would
sit on the little hill and EV the Titans that spawned on the ground below
who couldn't find their way up the hill.
There were also lots of people killing Ogre Lords in Wrong before the
Dungeon Patch, trapping them in with blade spirits behind the tables.
People used to throw meteor storm at the blue-robed Evil Mages in Fire
Dungeon, and still do. Except now they are *also* doing it in Wrong.
And I got Glorious Lord on my 4x craftsman by killing Terathan Avengers with
blade spirits, post AI/Dungeon patches. Not hard at all.
Shuffling the Ogre Lords around won't do anything about it. There are too
many other places to do it, and it's been going on forever.
(snip)
I pretty much use the EI/EV thing with my mage against anything that can
dispell. Against

Have you tried this on dragons lately?
I heard a rumour that dragons can now dispel with 0 mana, I am not sure how
true this is and was wondering if anyone can confirm.
It is certainly better now that dragons can dispel, stopping mages farming
them with one EV.

Ancient wyrm doesn't. Tried it about an hour ago. Died 3 times while trying
it. Would have been impossible if it would have used its fire breath. Oddly
enough it didn't though. Also used up 73 charges of invis in the process of
slowly wearing it's mana down so I could finally EV it to death. Anyone here
ever seen a dead EV. that ancien took mine down to just a sliver of blue.
