I have a newbie Animal Tamer who I bring out to re-tame horses and
such ... about 53 skill no lore.

Well given that it was patch day ... he was the first character I
broke out.

I tamed myself a cat, a dog, and a bunny.

I then proceeded to get guard whacked for commanding the pets to
follow and when I tried to transfer.

This happened multiple times, but not everytime.

So anyway it looks like they "fixed" the pet transfer bug in standard
fashion. i.e. making it more probably to die doing a transfer and
throwing in a small random chance follow will kill you too.

Actually I think follow may have been bugged before the patch too. I
seem to recall some of the NPC hirelings arguing with me when I
commanded them to follow someone. 'I am not a murderer!'

Make sure to feed your animals. They start out with a loyalty of 0
frequently. So you have to get their loyalty up before transfering them.

And the penalty from transfering an un-loyal pet is DEATH?!

Someone has to watch out for these pets.

Somehow, I really don't think that is the problem. There is a difference
between a bunny being loyal enough to follow commands, and getting you guard
whacked for saying "bugs follow me". I mean that is about the lowest level
command you can use. I have had tamed pets go bezerk on my for casting
Greater Heal on myself.

This was not my understanding of how you implemented the whole taming/lore
system. Minimum skill to tame a rabbit is less then 10, Corwin said 53
skill. I was under the impression that the two skills were additive and the
total used. That is, an animal tamed at 25 skill with 25 lore will have
about the same characteristics as one tamed at 50 skill 0 lore, am I wrong
here?

But even the command thing is kind of bugged. I mean commands like "All
follow me" work, but "All kill" doesn't, only the closest pet will actually
attack.

Sunsword,

fwiw, they were not fed ... since I didn't have any food. But I never
had problems with transferring bunnies before. ;)

So let me get the logic straight.

If I want to command a disloyal pet to kill I should instead command
it to follow.

But If I want it to follow, should I command it to kill?

Which has nothing to do with anything.

Maybe you've never used the transfer command.

Trust me, the pet does NOT attack anyone whether it refuses the command or
not.

Nor any common sense, apparently.

Yes it does. It's happened to me on rare occassions. Didn't used to
be like that, but it is now. I believe the people in this thread have
been trying to determine whether this is in fact a bug or a feature.
Seems like Sunsword was saying it's a feature, and it does make about
as much sense as some of the other new features.

I tried transferring a horse (out of town) with my tamer (81 taming, 30ish
lore) to another tamer (53 taming, 30ish lore). I fed my horse before
attempting to transfer. Lore said he was wonderfully happy. Both of us got
the message that the horse had transferred but... the horse went wild
instead. Every time.
Wasn't about to try in town, didn't want to get guard whacked ;)

I got guard whacked today. I was on the roof of main bank in britain on
catskills, trying to find a place to raise eval int. After six hours I
got pissed off and was leaving to find something that isn't broken, so I
transferred one of my polar bears to a friend standing right beside me.
The only thing I saw was "Rex is attacking <friend>!" and then blammo, I
was whacked.

Rex was well fed, had been tame for days. It was a good thing the roof
is lightly populated, since I at least got rezzed and all my stuff back
from the folks up there.

It would have been nice if this were one of the bugs fixed. I'm starting
to question whether this latest update was an upgrade, rather than a
patch. Let's see, bugs fixed number in the single digits (and are all
stat gaining bugs as far as I can tell, like fishing and tinkering),
while new features run in the triple digits. This was an upgrade rather
than a patch.

Actually I spend one hour transferring confused animals to other
persons...then it was too boring for me..
[63.2 taming, 73.1 animal lore]
I was either successful or it went grey and didn't change ownership, but was
retameable.
And they never died...

That is interesting. I heard that the 'teleport' cloud appears, which does,
when a guard kills a monster.

ts ts ts..
What would have common sense dictated? That I test it another hour?

Sorry, that wasn't in reference to you, but in whomever at OSI thought
this was a good idea.

I think they should have just taken the pet transfer command out
completely.

Simon Bar Sinister is the SOB whom Underdog had to put up with. (And a
footnote: A bar sinister is a short line slanting to the left on a heraldic
device, used for centruies to indicate that the wearer was a bastard [daddy
didn't marry mommy], so this guy's name is really Simon the Bastard.)

Rocky and Bullwinkle (you know what a winkle is?) got such outstanding enemies
as Boris, Natasia, Fearless Leader, Mr Big, and Captain Peachfuzz (the worst
of all).

Then there was Snidely Whiplash (voice by Hans Conried), who gave Duddly
Doright such a hard time. George of the Jungle had a variety of bad guys to
deal with, like Jerry Mander the evil developer, as did Superchicken, but Tom
Slick was always up against Baron Otto Matic.

Uhmm, I can't recall the Snidely Whiplash-type that Beanie and Cecil had to
contend with. Anyone?
