I have a question about the land surveying tool: Normally, when I taget an
area with this tool I get the answer that 'its an invalid location' or
'uneven terrain', but today I found a spot that gives no answer. Does this
mean I can go ahead and buy myself a house deed and finally have a place to
call home? Or is it some mistake? I ask this because I would have expected
an answer from the tool saying something like 'this seems like a nice place
to build a house'... I cant afford to just go and buy the house deed and try
to see if I really can build a house on the spot.
Thanks!
Esben
The tool is a little buggy. Sometimes clicking the spot twice will get an
answer, but it's probably not a valid location. There are also spots that
the tool says are OK, but actually placing the house is another story. Some
spots are also buggy and you will get a gump saying it's OK, while a text
message says it's not. These spots *can* often fit a house, but it is a
royal pain in the arse to place it. I succeeded once, eventually. Another
spot on GL has recently had a house placed in such a spot. I have been
trying for months to place one there, but somebody else got lucky first.
When the spot is valid you will get a gump saying "This is a valid location"
or some such.
BTW, if you got the gold it's worth carrying a deed with you, if you do find
a spot by the time you go get a deed and come back it may be gone. House
deeds are blessed so you don't have to worry about losing it if you die.

And you can allways sell them back to get what you paid for them. :-)
More like 20. I bought a castle deed last night to have a go with an
IDOC castle.
Lost my perfect placing record, and got 692 back from 860 buying
price.
I was _this_ close. I'd literally done a practice drop, then it
happened right after.

That has happened to me a number of times when trying to place on a server
line. You just get no message at all. Same as trying to place a boat on a
server line - you can't. :)
Hope that helps

That sucks. Did OSI do that because of that exploit? :-(
I'd say so, came in after it.
Nice little gold sink as well tho, even if it doesnt mean much in the
grand scheme of things.

Yep. Once again, the actions of a few jerks hurt the rest of us. I'm
not a programmer, so don't know why OSI can't just code in a price on a
deed so that you resell it for what you paid.
