I started out on my quest for Gargoyles and Gazers (partially inspired by some
posts here about those very monsters). I must confess I was disapointed by how
much easier they were to dispatch than the orc mages. I'm using an exceptional
katana, but my dex is stil very low. I'm perplexed that they would have turned
out to be so easy to kill, even with my high strength and tactics (particularly
gargoyles!).
Since I didn't seem to have a problem with these monsters, I decided to try
some solo anti-Earth Elemental fighting around Valendor. Again, while I used
more GH potions fighting them than I probably should have (and spent a certain
amount of time invisible and watching red names pass by), they were
surprisingly easy to kill. Why have I been fleeing from them for the last few
months? Clearly, I was under the mistaken impression that they cast spells.
They don't, but they're pretty strong.
Feeling cocky, I decided to try and conquer a dungeon. However, on my way
north from Valendor (which is in the desert near the shrine of compassion - so
guess which dungeon I was going to!), I encountered a serious pocket of
resistence: a gazer/troll/orc mage/ettin combo (with a few mongbats thrown in
for comic relief). Trolls and Ettins are usually not much of a problem for me,
and, after trapping the gazer and orc mage on one side of a house, I dispatched
them with cosmetic damage. Unfortunately, lag hit as I was trying to lure just
the gazer from the other side of the house. While I survived (and did a good
deal of damage to the gazer), I had to quickly run and use the last of my GHs
to recover. After this, is what a simple matter of trapping them again and
taking them on one at a time. Two Greater Cure potions later, I ws surrounded
by dead monsters.
This leads to a small, well, I suppose it is a complaint. Surely a high
intelligence monster knows that I'm on the other side of the house; they can
hear the fight, and probably hear their slimey friends calling for help. Why
don't they just walk around? Sure, I take advantage of their stupidity (and
would probably not have been able to kill so many ripe critters if the "I" in
"AI" stood for something other than "idiocy"), and the game would be much
harder if I couldn't hide just by walking around a building or a hill, but I am
troubled by the ethical implications of this: am I working an exploit? Should
I just pretend they are unable to be trapped and let them all attack me at
once? *sighs*
Anyhow, I'm going to spend a little time in Delucia fighting (and running from)
Bone Knights for a while. I can't beat them, and they put up a heck of a
battle! No ethical dilemas there...

They're not dumb, they were just programmed that way. And no, it's not
an exploit for you to be smarter than the software.
If you think that is bad try having a client crash wile your trying to lure
just one Terathan Avenger out from behind a corner. As you can guess I
didn't survive after I could not run back cause I was no longer at the
controls. ended up luring out 2 Avengers, 1 Matriach, and serveral warrior.
All this with only 2ar not that it would have mattered. Well I was happy to
find my body completley looted upon my return.

No I don't think its bad I would be almost imposible to kill some of the
criters with out use of traping. Try melee fighting an Ophidian or Terathan
Avenger. That is no fun at all unless you like the taste of 5th level
poison.
Good luck on your adventures with the bone knights. Try a silver weapon on
them you will be surprised at how well it works. Untill you get pked and
they steal it from your dead body that is.
Good luck

And have you considered collecting your stories on a web site?
You're a bit of a pessimist, eh lad?
I have yet to be PKed at Delucia's "City of the Dead" But fewer reds eem to be
around these days, Delucia has our own populcae of assholes, probably drove
them out...
Have you ever had to fight a Skeletal knight while some twink is mana dumping
"Reactive Armor" & "Greater Heal" on it?
I thank the powers above that i'd worked on my healing all this morning, my
bandages kept me alive just long enough for the little dork to get tired of
playing his game with me too regeant intensive i guess..*grins*
Thanks to the twink in question, "Mulin" for the parry gain, fencing gain, and
anatomy gains, the training was exhilirating, and i almost gave you 300 gold at
the bank as payment for the session. :}
A helpful twink, Britannia never ceases to surprise me with new things...

96.4 Tactics, 88.6 Swordplay and about 40 resist... (both marked "raise" on the
skill scroll) The funny thing is that I never had any idea those skills had
risen quite so much... mostly used in defense against nasty thieves, PKs and
cave-spawned critters!
However, the 100 Strength is the main things that keeps me alive... And I
always make sure to cast magic reflection after combat vs a magic caster...
>And have you considered collecting your stories on a web site?
hehe - I'm not sure any self-respecting web sites would want stories from an
uneducated miner such as myself. truth to tell, I never much considered that!

*puzzled* Do you mean *before* combat vs. a magic caster? Or does
the Reflect spell stick around until it's used? I thought they
changed that.

Set up your own - on one of the free web-hosting sites, perhaps?
Hehe, I'm one of those (few, perhaps) who are interested in browsing
personal fan sites. One containing the stories of Elinarson & Rock
would be interesting. Are Paper & Wood your characters also?

I try and cast the spell right after I fight a magic wielding creature so that
I don't forget to cast it later. Since, in theory, the orc mage (for example)
took down my magic reflection, I always cast the spell *immediatly* after
healing myself. Thus, if I immediatly run in to another spell caster, I am
prepared...

Er, uh, I would have to break character to admit something like that. Suffice
to say that I live and support a vendor in Paper's Tavern and Junk (which he
paid for with my money). My vendor (Mark) sells fashions designed by Wood, who
used to own a house I recently sold in Occlo. Elinarson provides us with runes
and occasionally travels the lands collecting junk for Mark the Vendor and
materials for Wood's work. Wood was supposed to be named "Scissors," thus
making us Rock, Paper and Scissors, but for reason unbeknownest to me, this
never occured. In theory, as a miner, I should be providing funds for the
three of them (particularly Elinarson the Mage) to pursue their lives, but I
have such an active life that I rarely spend any time with them anymore.
I hope this answers your question in a vague and round about way... :)

ROCK!!!!!! You should do this!!!!!! *shakes Rock til his teeth rattle*
REALLY YOU SHOULD!!!!!!
*blinks*
Oh. Sorry about that, buddy!
*straightens Rock's collar*
Should you decide to, I'd be glad to help you during the week after
Christmas (vacation time for me), send me an email if you are
interested. I've been enjoying your stories for a long time now, it's
the least I could do in return.
