can anyone tell me why it's fine to steal ore off a boat via the telekinesis
exploit, but any attempt to protect your ship during offline hours is wrong,
and ends up with the ships deleted?

i had a mining spot along the coast with one ship there. left myself there
hidden, as i was reading this NG, if i remember correctly, when i switch
back, some ass is taking my ore. i call a GM, Loki responds that it's not
an exploit, basicly saying deal with it. i then ask him if blocking access
to my boat is fine, saying that i know blocking off areas can get ships
deleted. he said it would be fine.

i went a little overboard, using 5 ships to block the main one. not two
hours after i place them all, as i sit there mining, Loki shows up, saying
move the ships, you have 30 minutes. now i'm on the north side of the minoc
mountains, right next to the server line, so can move one ship at a time,
but not be able to get back to the others to move them. while trying to
figure out how i can do this, i call Loki asking him exactly what would be
acceptable. to make a long story not quite as long, i end up having to have
Loki delete the 5 blocking ships. okay, they were only large dragon ships,
75K total, big fucking deal. oh, wait, that is kind of a big deal, shit.

oh well, i can deal with it, i guess, just one less smith in the lands, as i
won't put up with thieves on the waters, and pk's on land. forget the fact
that my main char is working to be a merchant, that his goal is to provide
affordable housing add-ons to everyone. what the real killer here is that
the fuckheads that called Loki in to delete my ship to begin with is the
same asshole who stole my ore. now thats customer service right there.

asshole: "help, someones keeping my from taking their hard earned shit."

GM: "don't worry, i'll fix them."

so now my main char might as well be defunct, as without a little more
smithing, and a steady supply of ingots he can't do house add-ons. the
miner char i have might as well have been deleted with the other ships, not
going to deal with thieves and pk's. that leaves me with a warrior type
that i rarely play as hunting gets so boring, and a mage/scribe/alchemist
that simply supplies the rest with potions and recall scrolls. and i
thought i was in uo for the long haul. can't see myself playing it now, as
the main char is unplayable, and the rest were minor deversions.

to bad ships couldn't just be secure. that'd only get rid of the massive
blocking issues, as you wouldn't need to block off a secure ship. oh well,
i can dream, right? at least i'm not bashing Loki or the game. all i can
say now is that this game has so much potential that it's unbelievable, but
fails to meet up to even a tenth of it. maybe uo2 will be better. maybe,
but doubtful.

Why not try buying ingots from people instead? You can still sell cheap house
add ons by selling GM armor and using the proceeds to sell the add ons at a
discounted price or use your warrior character to support your smith, or mine
in a guarded zone and making trips to the forge every 30 ore or... You get the
picture.

i don't buy the ingots because of the amount i need, somewhere around 30K of
them to make GM smithing using the weapon method. i'll probably end up
trying to mine off the boat in the new lands, as the hight of the mountains
is enough to cover the boat comepletly. can't see what the hell i'm doing,
but no one else can see either.

What I do is use a thousand bags to store the ore in. It takes a LOT of bags,
but at least they can't telekinesis the ore away from me. When they get full, I
take a lot of ore in.

(if you keep the bags on the mountain side of the boat and stack them, the
thieves can't get to 'em.)

Many thanks, Twi, i'll give it a try. had a nice long talk with the jerk
that took the ore, seems he turned to doing this after getting burned a few
time as i did. still think boats should be secure, with a one or two boat
per char limit. be nice, but i won't hold my breathe.
