Well, for versitility, swords. You can have the speed of a katana, but the
heavy hitting of a hally if you want. Also, magic fencing weps are less common
then magic swords. The only real good fencing weps are the kyrss and daggers
really. I would only suggest fencing for a poisoner. The frequency of hits is
astronomical with a dagger and 100 dex. But then again you can posion swords
too. My vote goes to swords tho.

Swords. Better variety of weapons.

Swords for me. Few things worry a poorly armoured mage pker as much as a
dex-monkey waving a katana at him.. particularly a dex-monkey bard, with 100
strength, GM tactics/swords, and a habit of peacemaking at inopportune
moments.

In my humble opinion of course... :)

How does peacemaking affect the mage?

Just my 2 cents..

Fencing's the better.

I have a GM Fencer and a GM swordswoman..With a GM Kryss, my fencer hits a HELL
of alot faster and harder than my swordswoman does with a GM Katana.

And she has the 100 dex, while he only has 93....

He even hits better with a spear.

I've been an advocate of 100 dex over 90+ for a long time. I think
your hit rate is simply the difference between the dex's of the chars.
I have both a Fencer and a Swordsman at 100 dex, they hit at about the
same rate, with the katana being slightly better damage overall.
Finding a decent 0-dex loss suit isn;t always easy, and one mace hit
looses the 100dex bonus. If I'm going after bigger critters, or
fighting in a group I use a heavy armor.

Well, I've still got 99.8 fencing, 100 dex,

last night I was able to raise my swords to 78.. (from 0)

I was surprised how fast it went up... i guess already having 100
tactics helps alot..

I'm still not sure if I wanna go swords or fencing, I can take swords
to 86 before I have to decided for sure and mark fencing to decay..

I keep hearing the katana is faster.. i dunno if that's true or not..

I love katana's though..

I don't think there's a noticable speed difference, but the thing is
that a katana will do a lot more damage in that same amount of time. In
the tests I've done with equal swords and fencing, the swordsman almost
always wins, although it's been really close every time. The real reason
I like swords is the variety of weapons, their high magic spawn rate
(Balrons and some of the others seem to ONLY spawn swords), and their
ability to be poisoned. My melee monkey is GM swords and maces, and I'll
probably choose one or the other once I reach my current milestones.

Well.. depending on magic.. 2-3..

maybe you could go thru the good qualities of each fencing weapon?

It seems to me that hte katana does better damage against armored
opponents than does the kryss.. anyone care to comment?

Why did they make a fencing foil anyways?
