Profession title on paperdoll

Hello,

A few days ago I reached grandmaster level in Swordsmanship, and was very
pleased to see "Grandmaster Swordsman" displayed on my paperdoll.

Two days later I reached grandmaster level in tactics, which was very nice,
but now it says "Grandmaster Warrior" on my paperdoll.

I was very careful not to reach grandmaster level in tactics before
swordsmanship, because I really like the "Grandmaster Swordsman" title.
My question is now, does tactics override swordsmanship?

Is there a way for the "Grandmaster Swordsman" title to be displayed again,
without putting the tactics to 99.9?

And finally, what will happen when I hopefully one day reach grandmaster
level in another skill, i.e. healing?

Thanks!

Tactics is known internally (the game) as "Battle-tactics"
and they listed the GM skills alphabetically.

No.

As long as you have a skill that ranks high in the alphabet, it
will display that skill first before others in the lower rank.

There are several who refute this "alphabetical listing" thing.

I'm not sure how I feel on this (somewhat hot) issue. But, despite
what Stratics says -- and I'm not sure where they got their
information to begin with; if it was Richard Garriot, I'll shut up --
there are several players from the beta days who claim that the
profession titles are actually ordered by prestige.

*shrug*

Just thought I'd toss that out there.

The beta had different professional titles than what are in the game
now. The order still uses the original titles. Probably still some code
that uses it internally as well, considering this is OS.

You can always test it on the Test Center.

That can't really be true you know?
I have a 3xGM: Bard, Archery and Tac's. My title is still GM Warrior.

I was hoping to get the 'archer' back, but it sounds like I never will ...

But then another question: why do some PC's have the profession title,
and some have none? Can you hide it somehow?

Oh, no, I'm quite sure it all coincides quite nicely. I'd just like to
know _who_ it was that put this "internal list/alphabetical order"
explanation out there in the first place. It would help me rest a lot
easier, and might shut up one or two of my beta friends who keep
screaming "prestige-based!!!!"

I think it has something to do with your karma/fame.
If its high enough, you'll see it.

You need to have high fame/karma for your title to display to other characters.

As for one of the origianl poster's questions..
If the day should come that you become GM healing(or GM anatomy), your title
will change to "Grandmaster Healer".

There is currently no way to chose which skill title is displayed, though i
(and likely many others) have often wished for one.

I personally worked my butt off to become GM Fencer long ago, and kinda
resented the fact that the primary fighting skill didn't take over as the
title..

oh well.

As for being seen as GM Healer, it works for ME perfectly well, as it helps
advertise the service i provide on dungeon crawls, healing everyone i spy
having a rough time of things, and restoring the fallen.

There's a list and a sort of explanation on stratics
http://uo.stratics.com Go down the index bar to Skills, General:
Order.

I found its explanation confusing, even more so since it lists the
original name for Tactics as Melee Fighting, whereas I have always
been told it was Battle Tactics. The former would not explain why GM
Warrior comes before almost everything else. It does explain AsaLoki's
archery though - Ranged Weapon.

Check you base skill, not modified skill. I'm guessing your base
fencing skill is higher than your base archery skill, and that it's the
base skill that determines title. Then again, I"ve been wrong before
;)

Seems like warriors evolve to healers when they get good at that, so
that fits the Melee Fighting model.

I believe that is because of Anatomy, which is both a fighting and a
healing support skill. Highly skilled warriors (bizarrely enough) are
therefore invariably termed Healers because of anatomy, and AN comes
before Battle Tactics *or* Melee Fighting.

Damn silly, really :-)

No matter what the sytsem currently is for displaying titles, I'd like to
see an option that allows multiple GMs to be able to choose between which of
their titles they want shown (i.e. a window with a list: "Grandmaster
Warrior", "Grandmaster Stoic", "Grandmaster Archer", et al). I heard a while
back that OSI was working on something like this for a future update.

Well, I hate playing devil's advocate, but where did Stratics get the
information?

I would be completely happy to accept alphabetically ordered if I knew
the information came from a credible source.

And the fact that you all keep saying it's alphabetical doesn't really
do much for the argument, either, as you all are following Stratics.
Where are the hard facts?

Go to test center, set your skills manually and see what title you
get. Your source can't get any more credible than that.

Okay......... that would be fine if there wasn't some sort of super
secret "internal list" at play in the whole matter.

If everything were ordered according to the displayed title names, and
just by chance it happened to be alphabetical, there would be no
dispute. It would all be plain as day.

But that's not the case. And, from what I can tell, Stratics is an
independent site, detached from OSI and all of their official
"secrets". So, how did Stratics become privy to this information?

Heh. Perhaps instead of asking all of you, I should be e-mailing
Stratics, hm?

Probably the same place I got the information. OSI sent me a list when I

Somewhere on my computer I have all those old files, if I ever remember to
look, I could probably post the information (provided I didn't delete it all
when OSI hosed the seer program).

It is an internal list. It is in alphabetical order, but the names of

You must not have been playing when the Alphabet skill decay bug was around.
The skills are definitely alphabetical and have been since day 1.

This was all I wanted.

Now why one of these friends, who was also a counselor for sometime (I
don't know how long), and _has_ played since beta, still wails that
it is prestige-ordered -- because he was "there when they came up with
it" -- I will never know.

It's discrepancies like this which really get under my skin.

However, he has been wrong before (though not often).

I just desired something straight from OSI. I suppose a seer who
claims a list direct from them shall suffice. Thank you. :-)
