With 100 Hiding, 100 Stealth and no armor, I can:
* Stealth 100% of the time (I think, hard to verify this, but if not, it's
close to).
* Walk 20 steps without being revealed. I'll be brash and extrapolate
that it's 1 step for every 5 skill points.
If I add enough studded leather armor to be AR 10, I fail my stealth skill
check all the time.
I was really hopeful that this skill would provide a useful evasion
capability, but it simply does not. The armor and distance limitations
make it useless as a ranger skill. The inability to Detect Hidden, Remove
Trap or loot a chest while hidden make it not so useful as an adventuring
Rogue skill.
I really haven't figured out what it *IS* good for yet. I suspect that a
thief with 100 hiding, 100 stealth and 30 Magery might make a decent house
looter, since people are bound to either forget to Detect Hidden before
they log out (or are just too skill-capped to risk the skill gain). I
guess I don't care too much about that since I'm not a big fan of private
houses. Still, I'm a bit disappointed by this skill because I was rather
hoping that I could stop recalling from place to place and Stealth there
instead.

I've received email from friends that have looted 5 houses over the past few
hours.
This skill is great!
Camp a house, walk in behind some slow schmo, watch him leave, and loot loot

Loot what? Everything in my house is locked down or disposable. I mean,

Locked down containers do not protect their contents, which can be
looted freely.
I think OSI will have to disable the stealth skill in houses and maybe
in the immediate vicinity of house doors. Too many losers will abuse
it otherwise.

I know that; that's why there's nothing of value in mine. Extra boots, in
case I need some and don't feel like waiting for an Orc to spawn on my
doorstep. Extra Night Sight potions. Some lockable chests and clothing
waiting for the return of my vendors. Some extra skullcaps and (IIRC) fancy
shirts I've been selling off slowly from when my mule was increasing
Tailoring.

I hope not. The game's got lots of houses that need looting.

Then you have too much stuff.
I've got things in unsecure containers myself, but they're things I don't
really care about. Mostly stuff waiting for the house-guard patch so I can
re-open my vendors. (No guards -> no public house for me; I refuse to get
PKed in my own home.) Given that delay in getting that patch, I should
probably unlock the front door and let someone loot it for me.

Some people share a small house with several people. At one point I was
sharing a small house with at least 4 people. That's 1 secure chest between 4
people, one of them being an alchemist who is generally screwed by item
limits in containers.
I think you missed the point that was brought up, that being that there is
something illogical and unbalancing in this game about putting a skill out
there that can be used solely to screw over other players. Sure, it can be
used in a good way to be part of a dungeon group, but until it is changed so
that (imho) a person who rushes a door will be noticed by the guy in the
doorway, then it *will be* and *is being* abused by the twinks who couldn't
give a rats arse about what they do.
OSI, please explain how it is possible that someone can sneak past my one
person wide door without me noticing at all? Please Please explain how this
is logical or balanced in this game setting.
As far as I'm concerned this was put in to *help* no one but the jerks.
> I hope not. The game's got lots of houses that need looting.
Yes it does. And those who dont take simple security precations
necessary to thwart this.. well.. let's just say darwinism applies in
many areas other than genetics.
Jack
The problem is that along with the houses which do need to be looted,
poor Jack the tailor's new home that he finally gets placed and fills
with his hard earned goods goes down the tubes too.
And I fully remember this happening to me when I placed my first home.
The good thing about it is there will always be this group of people
here that will help *anyone* pick themself up, get dusted off and get
their feet back on the ground.
I do feel compassion for these people. I dont feel compassion for
someone that hordes.

Another player and I share a small house across all of our characters.
With this stealth skill it means we have only 200 stone each of secure
storage in that house. Desiring a bit more storage than that isn't
exactly hoarding.
I guess I will have to detect hidden every time I walk into my house.
That's a skillcap wrecker if there ever was one.

Toss 2-3 lesser purps around
LD
I sure as heck don't want to take up detect hidden on
my already skill capped characters just to keep my house
from being looted.
Tossing a bunch of purple potions around everytime
I enter the house won't work either as it won't make
the hidden person visible.
This skill really sucks.. unless detect hidden in your
house won't raise the skill.

According to OSI, a house owner using Detect Hidden in their own house
will not raise the skill, but will reveal anyone in the house.
Subotai (GL)
If you own or are a friend to the house, and use detect hidden they will be
revealed no matter what your skill and it will not raise the skill, that
should fix everything y'all are complaining about..
