Which is worse: Newbie-killer or Crim-flag killer?

Tomcat on LS is both.

Here's a newbie, working on healing skill. His newbie friend is
working on bard-skills. But instead of the old "guard me - attack me"
routine, the newbie is just attacking the NPCs, damaging them abit,
(getting crim-flagged), and then healing them.

And along comes Tomcat. He hides and watches. He waits for the
newbie to have almost no health left, then kills him. He takes his
chain armor and leaves the hundreds of bandages.

Newbie's ghost runs off and logs out.

Newbie's friend says, "You're going to die for that - and lose that
pretty armor of yours."

Tomcat says, "hahahahahha".

Dundee logs in.

Dundee shoots the jerk.

Tomcat runs, Dundee follows. Dundee shoots the jerk again.

...leaving (I'd guess) about zero hitpoints.

Tomcat says, "i give you all"

Then he says "OOoOOoOoOOOo".

Jerk.

Newbie healer and newbie bard now have a complete suit of exceptional
plate, magic viking sword, magic spear, suit of chain and ringmail, a
whole BUNCH of mining tools, some potions and gold, a couple flour
bags, some tongs, three or four cabbages and *everything* else this
Tomcat was carrying.

We even carved the 10 logs he was lugging around into shafts and threw
his clothes on a bunny corpse.

Tomorrow I'll suicide and turn in my own head for whatever bounty he
put up.

And the next time I see him, I'll kill him again.

There is a certain irony here. Did you ooOOoo "I'm going to get my GM
archer!" first?<grin>
I find myself doing this type of thing more & more. Before I used to
wait until people would screw up, now as soon as someone does something
that looks fishy...
First move when I see, "NapaSUKS is snooping you" is to equip a bow &
say "Go ahead thief". If I don't have a fighter, 1st move is to get one
& walk back to the same area.

Call Murderers all the names ya want in this newsgroup ;=P
But at least we became Brite Red. Blue Npk's that have spawned at
a good rate lately are nothing but Weasels. The new rep patch
has its shortcomings, but it beats the original rep patch by far.

IMHO,

Yes, thats exactly right. Little slinky sniveling opportunistic
cowards waiting for newbies to make a mistake or comit a victimless
crime just so they can pounce on them. I've noticed that when one of
my tough-looking advanced characters makes the same sort of mistake
and turns grey, they do not make any move to attack.Hmm...interesting.
I don't put red murderers in the same category as NPKs...to me NPKs
are at the very bottom of all UO lifeforms, below the slimes and
mongbats. Pure trash.

I agree, I am glad the days are over when any person got jumped as
soon as they walked outside of town just for being dastardly or lower.

Actually I ran to look for a wandering healer. Then it just hit me.
Screw this, and screw him. So I did. I only wish he'd had a horse so
that I could've kill it too.

>I find myself doing this type of thing more & more. Before I used to

Well, I think attacking newbies is the first strike. NPKing is
second. Waiting until a person has a sliver of health left before you
jump them is third. Three strikes in one blow. It's loserhood
incarnate.

heh. No doubt. My threshhold of tolerance is zilch. If I have to
wander around macroing off murdercounts, I'll do that.

I would have done the same thing for any newbie. It's just a
*special* treat that the newbie was also me.

Maybe he'll think twice before he jumps the next newbie.

Or maybe at least think, just because you *can* wear exceptional plate
with 60 strength, that doesn't mean you *should*.

My personaly favourite strategy is dressing in exceptional chain and ring no
plate (26 ar) then going grey.

Once im grey and they attack me its time for them to pay...Once they have
taken 2 ebolts they go "IM SO SOREE, IT WUZ A ACIDENT!"

"OoOO OO O OOO OoooO"

Fire of Marauder...Red once again.

Is this really the way the bounty system works?
Here I thought when I placed a bounty, that I was somehow hurting the
PK and rewarding his killer. (Not that I think Dundee is a PK)

Thinking about all those rewards that went to the very people that
killed me. Foolish of me to think that a system put in place by OSI
would work.

Yes it's true. Anyone who turns in the head can collect the bounty. So
if you want to make a statement put a 1gp bounty on the guy :)

Not the only reason, but one of the reasons you frequently see blue
mules in the party with murderers. Their job is to stand at the ready to
collect the head of the murderer should he/she die. So the murderer ends
up with your gear when they kill you, & the bounty you put on their
head.

Well I guess I read the story wrong the first time. I met a Healer/Bard
team in Skara as Odric Stodmarsh. I figured it was them, but after reading
the other replies I realized my mistake. Sent a cancel notice to the
original reply. I wouldn't want to get anything wrong... I bet Tomcat was
more than a little upset.

Hey, I've seen Odric. Didn't know that was you. :-P

You figured the healer/bard team you met was us? We're just messing
around with our bankthief char's in between robbing every NPC on the
shard and chasing off bank thieves.

I've noticed a healer named 'Geminae' (something like that) is hanging
out at Skarabank now and healing everyone that recalls in. Pretty
funny to see someone appear, still smoking from a dungeon trip, and
she skitters up and slaps a bandaide on them.

>I bet Tomcat was more than a little upset.

Not half as pissed-off as I was, I assure you.

When I replied the first time I didn't know it was you who had gotten
killed. I thought you witnessed the game bastard act by Tomcat and went and
offed him with Dundee. I read a reply after that and saw that it was you.

In my original response I had the names of the Healer/Bard team, and if it
was you I didn't want to break your anonimity.(sp?) So I cancelled the
reply. They were really nice in either case.
Town thieving works well with the healing skill come to think of it, as you
are always close to zero.. :)

Another trick with the guards is you can attack them while they are gray to
you and run around with them in "tow". Most of the time they wont teleport
and kill you, when you attack a gray guard, they will chase you. It makes
for funny sceens. Maybe they fixed it, but I had hours of fun with the
guards chasing me like some Keystone cops episode. Well hours is an
exaggeration.... more like 10 minutes.

Now now, at least with the old notority system, you knew when you were grey and
what you did wrong was easy to find out. There have been a couple times I was
killed and have been unable to report the murders and I cannot figure out why.
This bards turning grey etc, is a real pain. It used to be you could go Dread
and kill all the scum you wanted withoust getting penalized as much. You could
even return from the dread no matter how many kills you had.
