I was buying some reagents to practise fireball a bit when I saw a
player (can't recall his name) asking to buy some items from a normal shop
keeper (not player owned) and the NPC said something about "Since you are a
member of the guild I will calculate a discount" or some such.

How do you join a guild like that? I'm a poor bowyer trying to make it as a
wizard but the reagents are eating me alive and any savings I could get
would be nice... needless to say the "Guilds" by players haven't been to
interested in a punk bowyer trying to learn magery/alchemy.

There is currently no discount, though one is planned for the "future."
Simply find the (in this case) mage guild master and say "'so-and-so' join."
He'll tell you to dump 500 GP on his head. Just remember that there is, as
yet, no benefit to joining so I would save your pennies for that
much-anticipated day.

Ahhh - you can join an in-game guild by asking (or mentioning) using the
word "JOIN" or phrase "JOIN GUILD" - the guildmaster will ask for the
customary donation of 500 gps, you lay it on them and "voila" instant
membership to this and associated guilds (plus discount). Anyone who wants
to resell regs from their vendor will inevitably have mages or alchemist's
guild membership. TO give you an idea - i.e. the typical
base-discount-prices for mandrake/nightshade/SA is 3gp each - I think it's
4gp if you are not a guild member - so you need to buy 500 regs to break
even :)

I don't thing an in-game guild can get into a guild-war thank goodness :)

You just have to figure out if this is a decent investment.

Good luck,

Bummer - all this time I thought I was getting a "deal" :( sheesh what a
waste! I was sure my other non-guild characters never got as low a reg
price but must just have been a "feeling" - I suppose a refund is out of
the question?

Ah well - I've wasted more money on other hairbrained things than this in
the past - so no big deal :)

Find a guildmaster, say "join guild". He will ask you for 500 smackers and
you're in.
