Ok I'm getting pretty frustrated trying to get a decent lich kill. My
character is a warrior with tactics, parrying, swords, and lumberjacking all
in the low 90s. Healing is in the low 80s right now and resist is around
40. Str 92, dex 89, and int 36 (including dex penalties for armor). Does
my character need more development, what armor and weapons are recommended?
I know timely use of bandaids and potions is important. Help! I'm tired of
the long grey walk.

TIA

i really dont know...it seems to take 2 people at least i found!! I can
happily manage daemons on my own but a lich...oh no! far to hard for some
reason. My resist is 70 and i just cant seem to kill the buggers either.

The key to killing a lich is a silver weapon. Also, high resist is a must.

Probably need to get resist higher. My axer has 70+ resist currently, he
has no problem taking on 2 liches. 3 would kill him though. He wears
chainmail suit, carrying a power/silver double axe when hunting liches. The
silver axe give him the definite edge against liches.

But even without his silver axe, I have tried 1 lich with a GM exec axe, he
can do fine. The key is to joust the lich, as the lich packs a punch not
only with his spells, but also with that cane of his.

If you have no 'voke, get a silver vanq of some sort and try to use a
spell reflection device or spell. Otherwise use a good silver bow and
shoot from range.

Get your resist up and get a nice silver weapon.

My GM Mage can take them one at a time but... I ALWAYS us something
with magic reflection or use magic reflect spell. Without that I'm
pretty much toast.

I'll agree, silver is the key.

Speed helps too.
As a fencer, with a silver kryss/spear of power, i can easily down a lich in
three-four hits, and with my resist of 77.6, they're lucky to do any damage if
they even manage to get off a spell.
And as most liches will attempt either a magic arrow to knock out spell
reflect(this "needs" to be updated for the changes to inscription, and it's
bonuses to the duration of reflect), or poison to incapacitate and
inconvenience, as their first spell, my resist averages a 60/40 chance of
blocking their first spell.

Followed by rapid attacks, the lich is cold once again in seconds.
But three liches hurts.

*chuckles*

This combat data works for any fighting class, in my experience. It takes more
hits with swords, because i can never find a good silver sword, maces CRUSH
liches. Axes are also extremely effective.

But i prefer fencing for it's speed. Even with a back-up healer, most lich
areas typically have a healthy spawn, and any weakness can mean the difference
between life and death.
Get your resist up, get your healing up, get your dex maxed if it isn't
already. If you have a healer friend, drag them along, the reward will be
enticement enough for those concerned with wealth.

If you need to test your readiness after some training, there's a light lich
spawn at the graveyard near Cove, 1 lich every ten minutes, to be exact.

If you do well enough, you're ready.

Good luck!

There are a couple of points that make a good lich hunter in my

it up..... I named my house 500 Liches Gift because that's about how
many I figgured I had to kill to afford the deed for my 2 story wood
and plaster house way beac before house placement in Trammel.

Anyway, you need high strength for the high hit points. Second you
need either a devestating weapon or a fast weapon that hits for good
damage. I have used both a Silver Power Katana weilded by a GM
Swordsman with GM Tactics or a Vanquishing Silver Double Axe weilded
by a Lumberjack (92) with GM Tactics.

The biggest key is to kill them VERY fast. My Lumberjack is down to 3
or 4 hits to kill them. If you don;t kill them fast they will hurt you
faster than your bandaids can heal you. I never bothered much with
potions except as a desperate, runaway cure.

As for armor.... All my warriors always wear the heaviest plate I can
find. I like the protection... especially when fighting liches.

Well, there is my opinion in a nutshell of sorts.

For the longest time I couldn't kill a lich, then my warrior got close and
eventually got to GM swords/tactics. The key as the y said is a silver
weapon. The damage it does is far superior to a regular weapon vs undead. (I
think double damage?)

And a hint on how to do it is this, get damaged before combating a lich.
Even if you have to magic arrow yourself.
Then start the bandage. then attack, the bandage will kick in soon after, if
he ebolts then poisons you in the starting seconds your all set in a few
more. And if possible, throw a reflect on before combat. It can make the
difference. And hardest part, stick close, if you run he'll smell your fear
and hit you with ebolts, or flame strikes. and of course you can bandage
while paralized.

Hope that helps

You've got some good advice from a number of people in this group :-)
Silver is your friend!

On the other hand... A mana dump will kill a lich in short order :) My
mage has wandered across a few liches in his time and only ever been killed
once by them... And then it was a double KO of sorts. I'd let off an ebolt
at the same time that the lich fired a flamestrike... Needless to say we
were both dead after the fire had gone out :)

Actually....You may well joke....But I'd like to see a Cestus in the
game....
(The Gauntlet rather than the sword) for the wrestlers.....
You could give it barbs and make them silver aor whatever...
That woudl be neat....

Better yet, quaff a gstr potion to be able to start a bandage, start a
bandage, then quaff a gheal to heal up, and you'll start the fight at
full health plus 20 hit points, with a bandage already counting down.

Yes as said before the weapon is a must (silver) My GM axer can use a silver
ruin axe and kill Lichs in 4 blows!!!(on average) With his Power silver axe
3 and sometimes two full bonus hits will decimate the lich. My axers Resist
is at 72 currently but he started Lich hunting with 50 and did fine, Recover
fully between kills though since the first few spells the lich will cast
will be clumsy weaken and such.

Wow a lot of input on this topic. The advice on silver was spot on. I
managed to take down one of these buggers using a silver broadsword and a
magic reflection scroll before the attack. I think a little luck was
involved as I resisted an attack or two before taking damage. My second
effort was less successful but I managed to live to fight another day.

Would a mana drain scroll be effective in taking out these nasties? I
manage to scavenge a bunch of stuff off liches since apparently some kill
only for the gold or experience.

Thanks for the excellent advice.

Never mind the facts... Just attack the person. Nice and effective, with
little thinking involved. 10 points Orion.

I have found Mana Drain spells (scrolls or otherwise) to be less than

With respect to killing liches I think the biggest tactic is to kill
them FAST! They hit hard and can do some major Mana Dumping on you!!

You might carry some Dex potions and keep them drunk so your dex stays
up. But all in all the best tactics I have found is HEAVY DUTY Silver
weaponry (The best you can afford, then save for better!!!) The better
you weild the faster they die and the faster they die the less they
can damage you.

One thing, My lich hunting warriors (both of them) have healing in the
90's. I hit <Cntrl-B> the INSTANT I take my first damage.... You want
that bandaid working as fast as you can. Carry some Greater Healing
potions with you and use them between if you get in trouble.

Spooky. I would try the vendor just south of Moonglow town. From Moonglow
bank go through the fence gate to your left and then South down the road
until you come to the Log Cabin on the corner (East Indian Trade Co.) The
vendor on the far left outside (on the porch) sells Silver weapons, as well
as other magical ones. If that doesn't help then let me know what you're
looking for in particular and I'll see what I can find :-)
