Uhmmmmmmmmmmmmm, could be.

Against all but certain heavy hitters (earths, trolls, ogre lords with tubs of
whoopass), I prefer light armor. It protects just as well against the rather
light physical attacks of castors, and gives a Big dex plus, weighs a lot
less, and costs less than a house. The right combination of chain and ring
seems to be the stuff to go for, especially for PvP.

Mages? I expect they will end up looking like D&DPlus mages, in leather or
studded.

But a pure mage will still not be possible. There is still no way you can get
rid of Cooking.

:-)

My main character, Embassy of Europa, has always been a pure mage. Its
been very hard, mostly because I dont wear any armor. Dungeons on my own
are a pretty much a no no, every single rat must be either ran away from
or treated to a lightning bolt. When fighting I have to run away from
monsters and stand in a corner for my mana to recharge.
When out with a group most of my to be used for healing (which I dont
mind too much) and I dont have a chance of getting any loot because all
the warriors and tanks are stood far closer to the monster than I could
safely get.

I have awaited channeling for a long time now, I didnt think it would be
very helpfull but that it would aid me a little. Anything to make mana
recharge faster has got to be a bonus.

The mana regeneration rate from channeling is far better than I had
hoped for. Passive channeling with no armor gives 5 times the normal
rate (assuming 100int and 100channeling), active channeling gives 10
times (thats one mana point every half a second).

With that sort of speed I can cast lightning almost limitlessly. I can
cast about 8 E-Bolts in a row (ouch!) without having to stop for mana.

Spells that I would have liked to use but couldnt because of the waste
of mana become accessable such as Flamestrike and energy field.

The only problem I was having as a pure mage on Abyss was that I could
get beaten all over by fencers. Using poisened Kryss's they were getting
in enough hits to stop me casting greater heal and it was hard to pull
off a teleport. 5 or 6 hits with no armor would dissolve my 100str and
leave me saying ooOOooOOOoo. I think the only reason they managed to
kill me so often was because everything was so lagged. I had no chance
of running.

According to the "In Testing" page, only *metal* armor will stop channeling,
meditation or whatever they're going to call quick mana regain.

Therefore, I think the mages are going to look exactly the way most of them
do now: full suit of bone armor, robe and wizard's hat. The only difference
will be instead of a plate gorget they'll be wearing a studded leather
gorget.

Won't matter for us pure warriors; we still won't have a chance to hit
anything under the sun. Since they're adding an equip delay, it will take
even longer to hit something.

Maybe they should just rename it from Ultima Online to Archers, Mages,
Smiths and Tailors Online.

According to RuneSabre, bone armor will have the same impact on
meditation as plate.

That's just to make the game fair for non-UOA users. So a UOA user
can't disarm and arm with a single keystroke - much quicker than a
non-UOA user.

They are moving the "swing delay" to "after the hit" instead of before
it. That helps warriors that aren't using UOA to disarm, heal, rearm
super-fast.

Bone is considered plate for all intents and purposes.

true there will be a delay BETWEEN hits however since damage from a
hit will be delivered at the Beginning of a swing instead of at the
end you will be able to tag someone just by getting next to them.
halberds will simply have twice the delay in between swings as a kryss
or katana but once that delay is up as soon as you get in range of an
opponent the swing is instant.

With the new upcomming patch about eval and meditation, doesn't mean you
have to be a "pure mage". You can be gm: magery, meditation(spray ebolts
like a hose), weaponry(i prefer swords over the rest, its how i fight),
tactics, wrestling... That's what I'm gonna have, don't know about the rest
of you... Probably have 80ish evaluate intelligence for shits and giggles
too hehe
