Sunsword, forget about "fixing" boats and item labels, and think about
making monster AI what it should be. We all want monsters to be smarter
fighters. Heck, smarter monsters might even give the PKs something
entertaining to do again. Here are some proposed suggestions that might
make monster-bashing more enjoyable for all of us.

Full use of spells. How many times have I done Eval Int on a being that
is "beyond comprehension," but that is too stupid to teleport over
barriers or heal itself. Monsters above certain levels should have the
full use of their spells. They should attempt to cure poison (with
success or failure comparing against the caster's ability like normal).
They should In Vas Mani themselves. They should try to teleport over
objects that stand between them and their prey (Lich Lords in Deceit
should definitely teleport onto the landing, as should the Balrons in
the Terathon dungeon).

All of these things should of course drain mana. As a twist, some of the
highest monsters in the game should also have high levels of meditation.
Maybe the top 10 monsters should have GM mediatation, and work down from
there, to the bottom newbie magic monsters having none.

I believe that many of them have high Eval Int already. If not, this
should also be added.

Verbal casting. If monsters are going to become tougher, they should
also have to verbally cast spells so that weaker players have enough
warning. I've seen many newbies die from an ele's Corp Por that would
have known to run or heal first. Many of the critters "speak" already so
its not a far stretch to see "Corp Por" above a wisp or an ele. These
need to have the same delay as normal, too.

On another note, I have not received any of the weekly status reports on
the previous suggestions. How are they coming? :)

That's coming. And I dread it, not because it will make monsters so much
harder to fight (well, I do, but more importantly) but because it will make
Tamers too "powerful," and will bring about another round of nerfing Taming,
not by nerfing the monsters we tame but by making Taming all the more
difficult (it's the way OS "thinks"). I now struggle for a tenth or two a day
of Taming skill. I can see them making it so getting past the grizzly bear
stage could take years. No kidding.

A Balron isn't going to pop out of the East Brit undergrowth while your
newbie is fiercly battling pigs.

I'm still waiting for orc mages taking reflect down and casting
explosion/ebolt combos...
