interpretation based on the performance of swords
after the latest patch.

I have the same experience with my weapons:

I got a little suspicious when my durable, surpassingly accurate
bardiche of ruin was, um, denting the skin of a Shade in Covetous, so
i switched to a standard Orc captain two-handed axe - ok now i'm
tickling its skin. Two steps back, one Energy Bolt, finally a dead
Shade. And i just went back to using weapons when they made magic
weaker !!!! Later on in the weekend i started using summoned daemons
as my primary weapon. That worked well.
