Hail,

Can NPC training only take you up to a set skill level or does it add to
your existing skill level? For example, I trained my first character in
swordsmanship and the skill went up to 35 points from zero I think. If I
start a new character with, say, 35 in swordsmanship will training take me
to 70 or do nothing at all because I am already at the "maximum" NPC
training level? (BTW, I know that the NPC will say that he can not teach me
further, I am just planning a new character and I want to get it right this
time) If there is a maximum, what is the maximum NPC training level?

The book says that a buy or purchase will "remove gold from your inventory
if you are carrying it or the bank if you are not". I have tried to buy
items carrying zero gold but with enough in the bank yet "I can not afford
that". Is the book incorrect or am I doing something wrong?

I finally got enough money (5000 gold) for a check. I got the check from
the bank, but I don't know how to use it. Can someone please tell me how
this should work?

I have seen people use the "all" command with pets (like "all follow" or
"all attack"). When I try that, I get a message that "all" can not be used
with a targeted command (like attack or follow). Am I doing something wrong
here or is the message just bogus?

Thanks!

:

NPC trainers will teach thee up to a certain maximum level, usually about 30
or so skill points (adjusted). If thou startest with say, ten points in a
skill, ye will only be above to buy a further 20. Different NPCs give
different amounts of training - for example, if memory serves, the mage in
Skara (on Europa) will train thee up to about 23 skill points in magery, but
the mage guildmaster in Magincia will get thee all the way to 35. Remember,
if thou buyest skill ye do not get the associated stat gain - and ye get a
good few points of stats in the early points of a skill.

'Tis a long time since I read the book (aye, I too am one of those sad souls
who reads the manual before playing the game ;-)) but this sounds like it is
referring to _player_ run vendors. Apart from big ticket items like house
deeds or boats, NPC vendors prefer cash. Player vendors (only found in
Felucca at present as one needs a house for them) will draw money direct
from thy bank account. This is because they are often out of town and
outside a guard zone - in Felucca, 'tis not a good idea to carry cash for
shopping.

I'm not quite sure why ye should want to get thy money out using a check.
This is used for transferring really large sums of money to other players
safely. At your early stage, ye want thy money as gold so thou canst buy
things from vendors. Turn the check back into gold by dropping it onto a NPC
banker (make sure the NPC IS a banker!)

I am afraid I am not a tamer, and do not recognise what might be the problem
here. As far as I know, the "all" command does not work for attack commands
and the "all follow" should read "all follow me" so thou do not get the
cursor. Perchance Richard, our resident tamer sage will help thee with this
one.

May thy god go with thee

Castile answered the other questions quite well, I will see what I can
do about this one.
They have changed the "all " commands some so that they need to have a
target. "All follow me" "All guard me" work because you give them a
target in the speech. "All stop" and " all stay" work just fine. "All
kill" actually works but is messed up with multiple pets. The closest
or the most recently commanded will respond to this, the others will
just stand there. If you just have one pet out hunting at a time this
may not be a problem. I just have a macro set for each of my dragons
for "kill" with their name in it." All release" is the same way, only
affecting one creature. Have to be careful with this one, I took my
dragon out to ice island with me once to kill the tames that couldn't
be retamed. Had just typed in " All release" and was just going to hit
the enter button when i realised what I was doing. *You see a corpse

LOL

Yea you gotta watch those commands. I was fighting a lizard once and was
commanding my bear to attack. The lizard moved slightly just as I was
clicking the target cursor and it somehow ended up targeting me! The bear
then attacked me! As I said, bears aren't too smart. ;-)

Thanks!

Salutations Castile Elan!

I give humble thanks for your kind reply. Alas, there is so much afoot in
of the land of Britannia that is not "in the book". I have sent my spirit
wondering the ethereal voids of internet in search of wisdom. Sadly, as
thou must surely knowest, he who claims wisdom claims to be a fool. Much is
not as it seems and knowledge is a phantom spirit, ever changing. For now,
I must be content to watch and learn, doing good where I am able with
assistance of kind souls like thou.

Yours in humble service.
Dr. Dolittle
