Hmmm...
While rummageing around in the thrift store, I found a Vic-20 cart
called Ultima - Escape from Mount Drash. It was distributed by Sierra
On-Line Inc and Written by Keith Zabalaoui. In the lower right hand
corner of the casettw is writthen Ultiam (tm) of Lord British. Any
ideas of where, whence and why it exists?

Yep! After hearing how rare this bugger is I'm going to hunt down a
Vic-20 ASAP! There's a side 'b' and side 'a' - I hope they are the same
as that would give me two tries at a good copy.

What's really odd about this tape is that it came in a box of other
rare VIC-20 carts (an Xonox double ender and a VIC Forth). It was the
only item that dident come with any docs in the box.

Any ideas on who Keith Zabalaoui is?

...
Hmmm... maby I shoulden't copy it...after all it *is* copyrighted ;)

Ye Gods! If this is true, get a VIC-20 system as soon as possible and dump

the contents of the cartridge to a ROM file on your computer! This is one
the only games we know next to nothing about.....

Actually, it was published by Sierra and I think it's rights are in limbo
right now...You can copy it, because it's just backing up the game. you
cannot distribute it without breaking the law.

Heh. I currently have a working version of a Vic-20 (ahh...the good old
days...:) and a huge-ass motherboard (supports 8 carts...;) that can make
backups...funny I never saw this before...too busy playing Moon Patrol I
guess...:)

With apologies to Lady Whisper, screw the copyright! If you don't find a
way to make those files available, there will be a horde of angry Dragons
breathing fire down your back.

Hello,
There is a VIC-20 emulation site that has some information available on
how to archive VIC programs at:

http://192.216.191.21/TimesSquare/Alley/3583/pcvic.html

....and, if you are willing to send me a copy of the tape, I will try to archive
it for you. I have a working VIC-20, disk drive, cassette drive and memory
expander (I think I heard somewhere that the program needed it, although on the
copy of the addvertisement I have it does not mention it). Let me know.

President and founder of Atomic Games, makers of Close Combat. That
is if he's the same Keith Zabalaoui that many wargamers know and
admire.

Hi Col!
Thanks for the info! I took the liberty of politly asking Keith
Zabalaoui at Atomic if he indeed is the author and if he had any
information he would like to share with us.

rec.games.computer.ultima-dragons doesn't deserve this filth from Ben Johnson:

: Thanks for the info! I took the liberty of politly asking Keith

: Zabalaoui at Atomic if he indeed is the author and if he had any
: information he would like to share with us.

And if he's *not* the same Keith Zabalaoui, be sure to ask him how there
could possibly be more than one coder named "Keith Zabalaoui".

Incidentally, I still refuse to believe that the original poster actually
found Escape From Mount Drash, since if what I've read on the game is to be
believed, it doesn't sound like it was ever released. However, I've always
been overly skeptical, so if someone can prove me wrong, I'd be more than
happy to eat my words :)

What do words taste like, ASCII at that?

When Sierra On-Line had their 15 year anniversry they showed the game in their
'zine, Interaction.
