quake error message

i got quake recently and can't play it because every time i try it
gives me an overflow divide bye 0 error message dose any one know how
to fix the problem.

Your problem is your processor is too fast for older software. If you are
running DOS try the program SLOWDOWN. You can chose what % your processor
speed will run at to match this and any software.

Another alternative is to get patching software that will rewrite the game
.exe to eliminate this problem, in which case slow down twill not be
necessary. However, patching software does not always work, so be sure to
save an original copy of Quake.exe in case the copy you patch get corrupted.
I don't have the patch programs names right here, but I will post their
names within the next few games.
