Yesterday I met with a local tournament player in our club who advised me
that he shelled out some money for Leahy's Bookup Express after having
recieved numerous emails aggressively encouraging him to upgrade from his
Bookup-Lite. He said he decided to give it a try mostly to stop the emails
from coming but found that he began getting even MORE emails after that (I
guess he was put on Leahy's sucker list) as Leahy began trying to peddle his
other crap. The tournament player said he was not at all impressed with the
software and sent it back to Leahy postage prepaid and did not receive one
dime back. It has been over 4 months. I am not going to mention this
person's name as I do not want him to be the subject of Leahy's (and the
numerous other phoney IDs that he uses in the newsgroup) attacks.

Absolutely not true. I have no problem with legitimate businesses....such
as Chessbase, Mattel, Chess Assistant, etc for example, that sell quality
products and honor their policies. Regardless of what you imbeciles (most of
you are just new IDs for the con-man Leahy) say to try to dilute things, the
facts remain.

1. Mike Leahy spams the hell out of you if you are foolish enough to give
him your email address, and he will sell that email address to third parties
and they will spam the hell out of you. This is what he did to me and
numerous others.

2. He did not honor his "money-back-guarantee" when an individual bought his
software and later returned it, thereby committing theft as well.

3. Bookup is garbage! Leahy is an out of work programmer that knows very
little about chess. The interface is crap, the functionality is crap, and it
doesn't do a single thing that Chessbase can't do. What Leahy lacks in
programming skill and chess knowledge, he definitely makes up for with his
very aggressive marketing practices

These are the facts, plain and simple. If you want to be a fool, and a
moron....go ahead and throw your money away. If you want to be smart, stick
to reputable software manufacturers that back up their policies.

I really can't compete with Jason in these discussions anymore - I just
don't have the (lack of) brains for the task. I live and work (and play
chess, albeit not particularly well) in Massachusetts, and have never
had the pleasure of coming within spitting distance of Winnipeg. As
much as I would look forward to meeting Jason in person, I'm not exactly
about to go out of my way to do so - a fact that anyone with even a
moderate amount of intelligence would understand. Why would I spend my
hard earned money to travel all the way up there to kick someone's ass
just because he's a USENET troll? Oh sure, I would get some
satisfaction if it actually happened, of course my Christian beliefs are
such that I would have to ask God's forgiveness for my sins. Certainly
my feelings are not hurt to the point where such sacrifices are to be
even considered. And all I have is Jason's word that he would show up
alone - as if his word can be trusted. I could of course offer a
similar challenge that should Jason be able to find his way to the
greater Boston area, I would be most happy to meet him under similar
terms. Would he show? Oh sure, he'll tell me that he would, and accuse
me of never fulfilling my end of the bargain, all the while spouting how
it actually *I* who am the coward and not he. He has made claim after
claim that he has no proof of, and can only resort to lies, threats, and
name-calling. "Pathetic" indeed.

It's been real Jason, and it's been fun - but as they say, it hasn't
been "real fun". I wish you the best in life, but I confess that I am
just not up to discussing anything with you anymore because one of us
(and it is not me) has not sufficient intelligence to hold a
conversation. You may feel free to claim whatever "victory" you may so
choose (and you will - you are SO predictable) over "the troll swartz"
(as if you do not already are not the gold standard for what is a troll)
and I will continue to sleep peacefully at night without worrying about
what you may say (I know you won't DO anything, of course) in the
future.
