Law firm Simonsen announced today that they are sponsoring Magnus
Carlsen with NOK 2 millions. Carlsen’s extreme focus, discipline and
determent are an example and an inspiration for our company, says
Simonsen. Recently, investment bank Artic Securities also gave him NOK
2 millions.
Magnus is breaking new ground here. None of the companies have signed
any similar sponsor contracts before. His extraordinary achievements
are winning support and admiration from lawyers and bankers, too, it
seems.
The money is needed to pay for his long term training program with
Garry Kasparov. According to Norwegian newspaper Dagens Næringsliv,
Kasparov is paid progressively. His salary follows the results.

Wait a minute--this is simple nationalism.
Nothing more. Kasparov had international backers. Fischer had
nations backing him (Cold War). Carlsen's NOK lawfirm is small
potatoes by comparison.
