Arasan 3.0 (Windows chess program) available

I have released a new version of my Windows chess program, Arasan.
This new version is for Windows NT and Windows 95 only. If you
are running Windows 3.1, you can still use the older version (2.2)
but I don't plan to make any fixes or updates to it (I am sympathetic
to those who don't want to switch to Windows 95, but not sympathetic
enough to do any more Windows 3.1 programming!. Seriously, I had
a lot of problems getting the last 16-bit version working, and don't
want to go through the process again. Also the new version does some
things that require features only found in the Win32 API).

You can obtain the new version by ftp from netcom.com, directory
/ftp/pub/jd/jdart. Look for arasan32.zip. To install the program,
unpack the ZIP archive to a temporary directory, then run SETUP.EXE.
The source code for arasan is also available at the same location,
in arasan_source.zip.

I have also uploaded these files to caissa.onenet.net, directory
/pub/chess/uploads/Win3, and ftp.pitt.edu, directory group/chess/
Uploads. I expect that they will soon be moved to /pub/chess/Win3
on caissa.onenet.net and group/chess/PROG on ftp.pitt.edu.

The new version (3.0) is substantially faster than version 2.2 and
should play a better game. The opening book is also quite a bit
larger.

I haven't been able to put as much work into the user interface as
I would like, but there are a few new features. The program's
opening "style" can now be set to one of several selections. Also
some technical details of the search process can now be changed,
using the "Advanced" dialog in the Preferences menu.
