This book by V. D. Chaschihin, an International Master of the
International Correspondence Chess Federation and winner of the
magazine "64 - Chess Review", shows that the articles by World Chess
Champion Alexander Alekhine, published in 1941 were revised and
amended by German Nazi editors. The book also contains all the games
from the two World Championship matches between Alekhine and Euwe in
1935 and 1937, “including the party that supposedly do not play”.
It shows that some parts of the articles were definitely written by
others than Alekhine because they contain mistakes that Alekhine would
never have made.
On the other hand, the articles contain statements that only Alekhine
would have made, thus showing that Alekhine did write some parts of
the articles.
Thus, the book reaches the same conclusion that many others have
reached which is that Alekhine originally wrote the articles but the
articles were edited by others so as to conform to Nazi propaganda.
The book is a bit of an oddity because it claims to reveal new
information, yet the information it contains seem to be primarily a
restatement of what has been known and published in other places.
The book is entirely bi-lingual. The even-numbered pages are in
Russian, the odd-numbered pages are in English. It was published in
Moscow the Soviet Union in 1992 with a press run of 5,000, as small
press run by the standards of chess books in the Soviet Union at that
time.
It is suitable for an English speaking person who wants to learn
Russian or for a Russian speaking person who wants to learn English.
This book was included in a collection of ten other Russian Language
chess books that I purchased in an auction at a bookstore than went
out of business in Berkeley California in 2012. I bought altogether
more than six thousand books at this auction. Here is a list of the
ten Russian Language chess books that I bought. My decision on whether
to reprint these other books will depend in part on my sales of this
Alekhine book.
