Playing with my wife, whom I am teaching, last night at Towcester, she picked up, at unfavourable vulnerability:

A 7
K Q 10 8 7 5 4 3
9
9 3

She was steeling herself to open 4H when RHO (dealer) opened 1H. She had learnt the lesson 'If the opponents want to play in your suit, don't stop them', and 1H went down 2. (Opponents can make a rather lucky 3NT).

Declarer had the remaining hearts.

Has anyone seen a worse break ?

I'm not sure. I once had AKQJxxxx and the suit did NOT run. I guess its about the same.

A famous Swedish player played a goulash in which he had the following hand:
AKJT98765432 - - A

He opened 7S and got a club lead which was duly ruffed by the RHO...

I've seen cases where one player has held a seven card suit and one
opponent has held the remaining six cards.

I admire any woman who can exercise such restraint when playing with her
husband. :)
