Was Einstein Right?
In remarking on quantum theory, Einstein said that God
does not play dice with the Universe. Should we allow
players to play dice with Bridge?
In discussing the type of methods that should be
allowed, what are the criteria?

California director's body found
The body of a part-time ACBL tournament director,
missing since Sunday, was found late Thursday near his
California home.
Karlis Veidins of Antioch, principal of Kimball
Elementary School for 10 years and a part-time director for
15 years, was reported missing by his wife Ida when he did
not come home Sunday evening. "He said he'd be home at 6:00
for dinner and he's the most punctual person God ever put
on this earth," she said.
Veidins, 52, called or visited his 95-year-old mother
Vera nearly every night for years. When he didn't call
Sunday night, she wasn't alarmed -- at first. "I decided
that maybe he went someplace." She had gone shopping with
her son on Sunday and he dropped her off at her home about
12:30 p.m.
Veidins' body was found late Thursday "in an area
around where he lives," said Tom Quinlan, director-in-
charge of the NABC. "His truck was found in the weeds and
his body was nearby."

Judge Carl B. Rubin
United States District Judge Carl Rubin of Cincinnati,
75, former president of the American Contract Bridge
League, died of cancer at University of Cincinnati Hospital
earlier this week. He had been undergoing treatment since
January. Rubin has a special place in ACBL history -- it
was his vote that moved the ACBL from Greenwich CT to
Memphis in 1972.
