Can anyone provide me with some detailed information about when 2
suited preempts started coming into vogue...

I know that two suited openings have been around for a while. Both
Roman Club and Little Major were using two suited openings 50+ years
ago. However, I am curious when people started extending this same
principle to preemptive hands.

I know that Wilkosz has been in common use in Poland for quite some
time, however, I'm not sure whether there are any other good
examples. The first really popular opening outside Poland would
appear to be Muiderberg which didn't get written up until the early to
mid 90s.

Back when Pender and Ross were a partnership, they used "Pender two-
bids" (early 1970s):

2D = weak in either major
2M = 8-11, 5+-5+ in the bid major plus an unspecified minor
2NT = 8-11, both minors

This was in the context of a strong club, weak 1NT, 4 card majors
system if my memory is correct.

I know of a method called "K-structure" (or something similar) which I
suspect was originated by Klinger and was known in Australia when I
arrived in '81. I don't think Ron reads here to confirm details but I'll
see him next week at ANC and ask him.

The method, IIRC, was
2S = 5-5 less than an opener, 2 suits one of which was clubs
2N = same but neither suit is clubs

I think it preceded RCOs but again not sure.
Method may be written in Australian Bridge.

Unfortunately Chris Ryall's weak-two webpages seem to be down at the
moment. However, in the UK we've had Woo 2s/Lucas 2s since at least the
80s, and before that we had Tartan 2s. Does anyone know when Tartan 2s
were first around?

Mid 90s?

Tartan Twos were around in the late 60s, I think, certainly the 70s.
Dreadful convention. A 2S opening showed an Acol Two or a weak
two-suiter, always with spades.

A 2NT opening as a weak minor 2-suiter is from the same sort of era,
possibly earlier. In fact it was part of Tartan Twos.

Lucas Twos - similar to Muiderberg - appeared in the 70s, I think,
also Alexander [now defunct!] where a 2S opening showed 6 spades, or a
5-4 with 5 spades. Reaching 3S because you did not like 2S seemed a
fairly poor part of the convention ... :))))

The "Weak opening systems" book by Slawinski has several systems that have 2
suited openers in it. My copy was hand written, and the original ideas date
back to the 60's IIRC.
I lost the book somewhere ;-(
