For a Certain Value of Perfect
Chess has too many draws. In the English-speaking world, it isn't played much as a recreation by ordinary people, as they are intimidated by learning the different moves of the different pieces. The form of checkers played in the English-speaking world has suffered so much from stereotyped opening play that even the three-move... more »

Scrabble II highlights: FREEBIE QUARTERS...
Here are the highlights from the four (4) Scrabble games played last night, Wednesday, November 18, 2009, at the Dover Scrabble Club (Delaware). As a group, we averaged 30.6 Points Per Turn. Not too many stories. Elsie had always wanted to play RUTABAGA. I was too chicken to risk RELEARNT, an 8-tiler, and settled for a mundane RELEARN, drat it.... more »

Ticket to Ride - Marklin
My wife and I finally tried TtR-M over the weekend. It was great for two people! The smaller map pretty much ensures that you get in each other's way. The passengers were an interesting twist, as well, but I think the smaller board is what really made it better for two players. We enjoy the original TtR, but for two players, you both can pretty... more »

Scrabble II highlights: GRUMPIER SENTINELS in HOMEROOM...
Here are the highlights from the four (4) Scrabble games played last night, Wednesday, November 11, 2009, at the Dover Scrabble Club (Delaware). As a group, we averaged 35.4 Points Per Turn, perhaps a club record. We formed 26 sevens, eights and nines in the 4 games. Elsie is still on a roll. In one game she scored 673 points in 13 turns (51.8 ppt).... more »

Scrabble II highlights: WEIRDER UTOPIAS...
Here are the highlights from the four (4) Scrabble games played last night, Wednesday, November 4, 2009, at the Dover Scrabble Club (Delaware). This was certainly one of our most mundane outings ever, forming only 11 sevens and eights in four games. Still, I know that outstrips the typical performance in a sanctioned club. Our dismal 24.8 Points Per... more »
