Star Wars Gamer #3 had rules for playing ship-to-ship combat using a
variant of the Silent Death rules.

Those rules included ship stats for...

YT-1300 (millenium falcon)
X-wing
Y-wing
A-wing
B-wing
TIE fighter
TIE interceptor (I think mislabelled. should be TIE advanced)
TIE bomber

So, lately, I've been collecting the various Star Wars Pocket Models.
And I want to get ship stats for the models included with that.

ARC-170s
TIE Interceptor
Droid Trifighter
Droid fighter
genosian fighter
jedi interceptor
V-wing

and the various capital ships

Lambda class Shuttles
Venator class destroyers
Imperial class destroyers
Nebulon-B frigates
Correllian corvettes
Providence class carrier/destroyer

Ideally, it'd be some conversion between the
attack/defense/damage/shields ratings of the pocket models.

Although they were not entirely satisfactory inasmuch as they leave you
playing a game of Silent Death with Star Wars hats on. They're heavy on
seeking weapons whereas we only see seeking weapons in Star Wars when the
target is the size of a moon; the ships can take lots of hits and suffer
incremental degradations in capability; etc.

Ok, then perhaps a better question is... I'm looking for a dogfight
style game to play with the star wars pocket models (vs. the
semi-abstract game that some with the pocketmodels)

I'm looking for simplish rules (playable with my 7 year olds... gotta
break them in early). And Ideally, something that can be based at
least partially on the stats on the models themselves.

I'm >this< close to scrapping the search and just writing my own...

You want the freely downloadable excellent rules system called Full
Thrust. See http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/3893 . The only
thing that might not meet your requirements is the ability to use
the existing stats - but who knows? Maybe with some simple tweaking
you can come up with something.

When my gaming group discovered that the normal game wasn't going to let us
fly the ships around the table, we went with "Turn or Burn"

The mechanics are simple but some thought is required to make sure you're in
the right place to take your shot (and the number of times people fly too
fast and off the edge of the board...).

There's some variety in the construction of different ships, but basically
an X-Wing and a TIE Fighter are going to end up the same.
