It looks really "rinky dink." Is it stable at least? In any case,
should I look for your table on Saturday? if so, what is your
username? I signed up as Monty, so that's easy enough. I couldn't
find a way to set up a 15 point match, though I only had a few minutes
at that point to tinker around there.

It Is stable despite the "cartoonish" look (I have my reason for using it,
and venue WILL NOT change). One big reason is that it is In NO WAY a
gambling/money site. It will work JUST fine. The person who sits in the
upper left hand chair sets match parameters (including the length).

I recommend you play a few matches before Saturday. I received
communications that there was a "Monty sighting" yesterday. My user name is
"mpetch". On Saturday before the first match I will be in the doubling cube
room and we can agree on the table to play at.

Hi Michael,

just out of curiosity: Why don't you just play on FIBS? No money site
either, and well-established, stable, everybody is familiar with it (and
their favourite client) etc.

Regards,
Peter aka the juggler

No doubt you are in the position to choose. And I'm still curious about
the reasons for your choice.

Its the most comfortable place for me to play. I play competitively on this
site in a tournament room that is well known by many lurkers on this board.

Yea its a crappy site Micheal has picked but he loves WGC for some
reason that continues to blow my mind.

This site is VERY "rinky dink" similar to GamesColony or Yahoo Games.
I posted my complaint a week or so ago about this but MP never
replied. He must have covert reasons to play at this site. Maybe he's
associated with the site and trying to get newcomers, hence the money
contribution. There always seems to be problems with these "java-
connection" game sites. Yuk!

I am associated with the site because I am a player there. And I did respond
to your previous post omegaman and you still are hell bent on propogating
some mythos that the site needs Java to play games.

I can only surmise you are an internet neophyte who doesn't know anything
about what java is, or what thin and thick clients are and how they are
associated with your browser (or not) OR you didn't actually try the
software. There is only one OPTIONAL component that uses java for
COMMUNICATIONS outside of lobbies. That's it. Most people don't even use it,
nor is it required. And to make it clear that Java app doesn't even run from
your browser (its no different than a C++ client being downloaded to your
system).

Do you know the difference between a Java Applet and a Java Application?
Probably not because the term "java connection game site" tells me how Savvy
you are in the area of software and the itnernet.

As I stated up front when I picked WGC I am not a developer, designer,
administrator, manager, host or even a sysop there (Yes, go back and you
will find I mentioned that). I play there competitively. And before you say
there is no competition - then you don't know much about the site.

I try to refrain from using the Tournament group's name here since what I am
doing with Monty is not one of their events. But for the record if you must
know, you can find me every couple days playing in WGC in the "Gammonzone
Tournament Room". And before you tell me omega that no one knows what
Gammonzone is - I would bet you the title to my house that even Carol Joy
Cole knows about Gammonzone, and probably knows some of the people behind
it. It just so happens that Gammonzone is usually well represented at ABT
events in the US.

And for a bit of history, Gregg Cattanach (Yes, the same ABT tournament
Director who frequents here) was a host for Gammonzone 9 years ago (maybe
almost 10).

I play where I can find free, friendly, and competitive backgammon in an
atmosphere with people I have known for 8+ years. So now I will shamelessly
advertise http://www.gammonzone.com, and state that they have been around
for a decade running quality events (both daily, and monthly web-based
events).

So I guess ya'll know why I play there. And as I stated before Omegaman, if
you don't like it the matches will be posted to my website (I'll make the
links available here when matches are posted). I could care less if you
showed up or ever reviewed the matches. I don't care what you think of the
Venue or the terms.

I have no issues with no one showing up either. If its just between Monty
and I then we can play in peace. Consider this Omega, I am being nice to not
only put up my money, but I'm willing to play for THOSE WHO WISH to show up.
I could have arranged a private session with Monty and just posted the
results after, and now I tend to think I should have :)

Mike, wow, thanks for your thorough and garrulous reply. I must have
struck a nerve. I now have a much better understanding. Now the
question for me is which of the opponents is the most arrogant? Well I
guess it doesn't matter as I won't be reviewing any matches which, as
you pointed out, wouldn't hurt your feelings any. God save the Queen.

Thanks, one less potentially arrogant kibitzer who can't use anything better
than dialup who thinks I have to make my universe center around him.

At least Peter had manners, and I appreciate that.

Perhaps the old saying, "any kind of publicity is good publicity"
might apply here, right?

LOL.

"The Psychology of a Moron" - Looks like Michael has nothing better to
do than appropriate backgammon match challenges with his infamous
pompous attitude as the following link illuminates as one example:
http://newsgroups.derkeiler.com/Archive/Rec/rec.games.backgammon/2006-08/msg00285.html.

Here's a little profiling: Michael is a yuppie gen'xer (or a
babybuster as some have monikered) in his thirties who works as an IT
analyst/programmer so puts a lot of stock in his knowledge of OS
platforms and TCP/IP; has difficulty meeting women or maintaining
relationships for obvious reasons so has time and money to fund these
little excursions to feed his ego in order to balance his feelings of
inadequacy in other areas of his life that should be of more
importance. ;-)

Does not work fine for me. I registered, downloaded the software,
tried to run as administrator and keep getting an error message saying
client.exe has stopped working and windows is searching for a solution
which it never finds.

Good luck in your matches.

Wow, gammonzone. That brings back fond memories. I hosted there
myself, was it 7 or 8 years ago? It was probably gammonzone that
weaned me off FIBS. My life revolved around it for awhile. It was
run by good and dedicated people, included many great players, yet
welcomed all in a spirit of fellowship. I'm glad to see it still
survives in any form.
