I also think that X should beaver a double. Why should X beaver?
There's a handy benchmark for beavering. Take the initial position.
Imagine that the opening roll was 11 (although that's impossible of
course). Imagine also that the player with the 11 doubled immediately
afterwards (again impossible of course, since X is on roll.) Then that
double is right at the border between beaver/ no beaver. Since O's
advantage seems to me to be smaller than in that scenario, I think X
should beaver.

O has clear assets here:
* a direct shot
* an advanced anchor
* good immediate prospects to make the 5 point.
Point to note: 6 are duplicated.
X has enough defensive resources to take (right now and a roll later):
* an anchor of his own
* a 3 point board allows him to face an exchange of hits
* and, should he avoids the hit, an even race.
Point to note: Getting hit is bad, but not too bad, since he could
advance his anchor. Nonetheless, there's a subtle feature in the
position, that is his stripped situation. A hit could lead him to
either expose another checker on the outfield or put a checker inside
under the gun.
