Bubba's shot out of the gallery on the last playoff hole. It totally
unnerved Oosthuizen, Hooked it 156 yds to within ten feet! Best shot
I've ever seen.

Did you miss the, um, double-eagle earlier in the day?

Bubba did pull off a remarkable shot, though.

The double-eagle was a great shot but not really any better than a lot of
other long 2nd shots to par 5s. There's a lot of luck involved when a
ball lands on a green and then rolls 40 yards into the hole. Bubba's shot
was better.

I understand what you are saying, but which shot will be remembered 20 years from now? This was only the 4th double eagle in Masters history, and the only one to be caught on video.

Which ball will be in the Trophy Case at Augusta National?

Permit me to answer your question with a question. Who won the tournament?

I've got nothing against Bubba. I like Bubba. Seems like discussing golf with poker players is pointless, though. A double eagle is a lot rarer than a hooked wedge shot. Tiger (of old) used to hook and slice wedges all the time, and ended up closer to the hole, and then made the putt.

Bubba won because he pulled off a remarkable shot, and Louis screwed up his second shot. If Louis had managed to put his second shot on the green, they would have both made par and gone on to the next hole.

This hole is set up a little like the par three where there were two aces on
Sunday, the ball funnels down towards the hole. Its still a great shot but..

The double eagle will be remembered the next time someone makes one at
Augusta. The winning shot will be talked about for a long, long
time.

For my money, I think the greatest gold shot is the one by Tiger at the 2005
Masters. The way he approached the cup from the side, the slow, dramatic
roll to the cup, then it actually stops on the cusp before falling in; and
it happened at the Masters. Check out the concentration and focus on Tiger
in the clip below. He seems to be angry at the hole. Have not seen that
out of him in years and most likely will not ever see it again.

Case in point. Had Tiger somehow blown the lead that shot gave him on 17

Oosthuizen's shot was phenomenal, but it is destined to become just a
small piece of Masters trivia now. Had he won the tournament, you would
see it dozens of times over the next year.

Oosthuizen's shot was the shot of the tournament, one for the ages, but it
was just a very good shot that happened to go in. Bubba's winning recovery
shot from the pine straw on the final playoff hole was a better shot.

Nah, just a native speaker of the English language. You describe one shot
as "the shot of the tournament" and "one for the ages" then dismiss it as
"just a very good shot" and not even as good as Bubba's shot in the same
tournament. Jerry doesn't see any contradiction, either, if that provides
you with any indication of how badly you communicate.

Bubba has been doing the talk show circuit and his shot is the one mentioned
as the shot of the Masters, partly because he won, but also because it was a
160 yard snap hook, off pine straw, around trees, with a gap wedge. He may
be the only guy in the world who can make that shot. The shot comes from
the trees on the right side of the fairway but when it hits the green it is
rolling left to right.

The albatross will go down in history but it was mostly good fortune that it
went in.

It's the luck factor of golf. Because it was at the dramatic end of the
game, it made good press and fun viewing. But you and I know that a
'fortunate shot' stroke on the first hole of the first day, counts the
same as the last putt.

What sets these guys apart is they visualize the flight of the ball and
are able to ignore whatever is between their ball and the place it will
land. Whether it's a tree just off to the side, and lake to fly over, and
branches above or below. They seem oblivious to them. Then know the flight
and where it'll land. For me, the moment I know I have to hit over water,
I 'visualize' a splash.

So to enhance my enjoyment of the game, I designed a few new rules for
myself. If I happen to go in the rough, I consider it manmade, don't want
to damage my clubs, and give myself a free drop on the fairway. Putts of
less than two feet are a gimme. (The pros get to play on better greens
than I do). And then I usually don't keep score anyway. I'm out there to
BS and joke with my pals, enjoy the out of doors, hit something, then lie
about our scores over lunch after.

The albatross will be immortalized in the annals of Masters history because
it was the first ever on that hole, but it was nothing more than a shot that
top pros hit routinely that happened to roll in due to the severe slope of
the green. The camera got a great look at the entire shot, the drama of it
rolling down, with Feherety screaming "Come to papa!" The fact that it went
in was 99% luck though. Bubba played a snap hook off pine straw to a blind
pin with a gap wedge, in a sudden death playoff for the Masters. Unheard of!
There was far more skill, creativity and nerve involved in that shot. In the
short term the winning shot will remembered by golfers and fans because it
was such a "masterful" shot to win it all, The cameras were poorly
positioned to capture it. I think in the long run it will be the double
eagle that will be remembered as the shot of the tournament, but maybe not.

The double eagle will be recorded in the books and will be part of a
trivia question the next time someone makes a double eagle in the
Masters or comes close to one. The winning shot will be long
remembered and will become part of Masters lore.
