Last night in a 1-2NL game I won $382 just for being there. Guy under
the gun who has been trying to lose the last of his $400 buy in goes all
in for $63 with A-5 Hearts. A sound player makes it $163 and all fold.
Flop come A 4 4 then A A. Sound player has QQ and makes $6100 for his
call and all-in makes $3100 for his raise plus the pot. There was
$122,000 in the jackpot which requires 4 of a kind to be beat. This was
a mini-jackpot which requires that Aces full of jacks or better be
beaten. I thought the fact that his 5 played was truly the most
interesting part. For the night is wasnt quite a four figure win but
very close. A few of the usual bad beats or it could have been a very
good night.

What are you trying to say here? A guy lost with a pair of Qs. How
does he make anything from that?

Pepe is trolling, or is too dumb to grasp "bad beat jackpot"

I hope there's a clarification because none of it made any sense to me.

He lost with aces full of queens, to quad aces and the 5 outkicked the fours
on the board.

Aces full of queens loses to quad aces, the 5 plays. All four players' hole
cards are in play, so the jackpot pays. The two principals take the lion's
share, but everyone else at the table gets a cut too.

At least that's how BBJ's are paid out where I play.

Thanks for explaining it - I suppose these people dont play in poker
rooms with a bad beat jackpot -- and yes the guy with 2 queens got $6100

I get it all, except where the '5' comes into play. Would it be that if a player folded AJ early, that player would have gotten a bigger slice of the JP than the A4, who won the pot?

It's a five-card hand, and the only other options for his fifth card are the
fours on the board.

Seems to me it's mentioned only because for the jackpot to pay out, all four
of the principals' hole cards need to be in play.

That's about it. I thought it was interesting enough to not be a troll.

as usual - you must have a wonderful life - all you know how to do is
tear down.

AS I have said before - come sit at my table anytime (IP Biloxi Friday
and Sat nights)- it might not be as easy as you seem to think. In case
I may not be there just let me know and I will make an extra effort to
attend. I promise I will bring enough cash to make it worth your effort.

I'll make one attempt to explain "5 plays" for you. The board was A 4
4 A A. If the board were, instead, A 6 6 A A the 5 hole card would
not play. One of the 6s on the board would have to be used for the
kicker instead of the 5, and there would be no JP.

Um, because 6 is one bigger than 5.

No diss, but I don't get your disconnect.

Best 5 cards plays, you have no choice in the matter. So the 6 would
have to be used for the kicker for the quad aces.
For the JP to be in effect, both hole cards of each hand must be used.
