To any and all Detroit-area players:

1) What hotel would you recommend staying at if playing in the upcoming
Heartland Poker Tour event at the Greektown?

2) Based on the poker room size, how many players will be able to play in
each of the flights?

3) What has the buzz been about this event?

Any other tips or info you want to share about the casino and its
immediate area is welcome.

Thanks,

DanFan

When I play at Greektown I stay at The Atheneum., (313) 962-2323. Nice
place, located right across the street. Goes for about $150.00 a night plus
they stick you another $15.00 for parking. You might be able to get some
special rate through the casion. One of the times I played there The
Atheneum was sold out so I stayed at the Comfort Inn on E. Jefferson Ave.
(313) 567-8888. It's about a ten minute drive and it was cheaper. However,
it's not a place I would recommend. The front desk was set up behind bullet
proof glass - which is hardly ever a good sign.

If you want to stay right in the downtown area I recommend the Ren Cen.
It is more expensive, but a nice hotel with nice rooms and it is right in
the middle of everything downtown. We have the people mover (basically an
above ground subway that goes in a big circle around downtown) and there
are entrances to the subway at the Ren Cen and at Greektown.

I personally would stay at a hotel in the burbs though. DETROIT is not
all about DETROIT anymore. We have some pretty nice burb areas. That
being said if you do not mind a 20 minute drive downtown while here stay
at the Ritz Carlton in Dearborn.

MGM is a nice casino and hotel as well. If you want to piss Greektown off
(hey its there fault they do not have the hotel open yet) stay there it is
pretty close and very nice from what I hear.

The room has 18 tables I believe, but I think they are going to add a
couple more (they have the room) to make each flight 200.

Pretty high. We don't have a hell of alot going on so anything that comes
through gets some buzz.

Mark runs the floor sometimes and is a nice guy. Ed is a jerk, but gets
the job done in a business type manner which I respect the hell out of.

There are a few ok dealers, but mostly they are not good. Papa (his real
name) is very nice and does his job pretty well. Endinshaw is also a nice
guy who gets the job done. There are others, bu those two stick out in my
mind.

The 'Greektown' area is not that great. I mean there really is nothing
there, but if you want to hang out in an ok area hit up Royal Oak. Tell
the cab main st and you will have plenty to do while there. Nice
restaurants, bars, clubs, ice cream joints etc.

If you drive take 75 North to 696 West to Main st (right by the water
tower for the DETROIT zoo) make a right and take that down about a mile or
so and you will see people walking around. Maybe 15 minutes from downtown.

The DETROIT zoo is also right there off main st and is a pretty nice zoo
if you like that kind of thing.

I am at Greektown quite a bit (it is the best and biggest room here) Drop
me a line when you get in me and my GF will come down and rail ya.

The downtown Dearborn area is also pretty nice with a bunch of Bars,
restaurants etc. I live within a 10 minute walk of Downtown Dearborn and
hang out down there all the time.

It is a little further than Royal Oak about 25 minutes by car.

If you do come to DETROIT I hope you enjoy your stay, seriously.

I like the Courtyard Marriott. Regardless, I always book through
Priceline when I go to Detroit, and have never paid more than $75 for that
hotel. That one, along with the Marriott at the Renaissance Center (sp?)
are all on the People Mover line, and withing walking distance of GT.

Thanks for all of the responses, this has been very helpful. If I go, I
will likely stay downtown within walking distance.
