Best ways to improve as a poker player

I've been a member of most major online poker training sites. I've learned
a lot from those, but a lot of the videos contain some pretty bad advice.
I've used learning programs like Leak Buster from Holdem Manager. For the
money that was the best bang for the buck in finding poker leaks.
What else have you guys used that you felt has really helped your game for
both live and online play?

Hi ToeHead, I'm XaQ Morphy, and I lead the kill file committee here on
RGP. Basically when an issue arises where a poster is being unruly, I
hold a special council meeting, we take a vote and if the person in
question is found to deserve it, they get mass kill filed. That means no
one can see their posts.
So let me tell you something, last night we met and your name was at the
top of the list. You showed up out of nowhere plugging leak buster, your
email address is clearly one used by spammers, and you mention it in every
single message you post. I'm a HEM owner myself, and I find the program
great, but we here on RGP don't appreciate the sneakiness that spammers go
through in order to pimp their products.
We decided to make this a special case. I'm going to ask a question and
you get one chance to answer it truthfully. If you provide an acceptable
answer we will let you remain, but if you don't, it's into the killfile
you go. Here goes:
Are you here on RGP for any other purpose than to advertise for leak
buster...if so, what purpose is that?

Hundreds of morons I never heard of come out of the woodwork , throw up a
website promising to "MAKE YOU A WINNER " ,during the early stages of the
poker boom and 1000's of people got scammed .

different to the rest of us confirmed users so people automatically assume
it's spam (because spammers, as a rule, don't confirm their email or their
account). It's a very simple process to be confirmed, just send an email
to Paul Popinjay with your confirmation number and your posts will no

For future reference, what can I talk about or not talk about? I guess
knowing the rules is fairly important, and didn't think I was violating

product, and the developers are very cool people. That's the extent of my
relationship with them.
I don't want to put the people I've received coaching from in bad light. I
don't think that's entirely fair. I will say that someone I did get
coaching from that I felt did benefit my game was Eric Liu (who has also
staked me in the past in high stakes tournaments).

players are top name players, and very good players. Their coaching didn't
work for me, but doesn't mean it doesn't work for others. Additionally, I
respect them as people, so I don't have a need to bad mouth them. Sorry to
disappoint.

Long-term winners are not going to waste time coaching you. Most
big-names got big from the luck of the draw (variance).
Two examples:
Russ G (RIP) died broke.
Doyle Brunson, according to his own admission, was broke 4 times in his
career. However, since he had access to the bankrolls of some of his
gambling pals, he wasn't really "broke" in the sense of being destitute.
IIRC, he was down $1 million just a few years ago. I am sure he is a
good player, but for a frighteningly small number of lucky breaks he
would've wounded up like Johnny Moss.
(Doyle's book sucked. I bought it, read it, and then left it in a hotel
room. I liked the parts about the Mob, but the rest of it was mostly
self-indulgent crap.)
