I suppose, in these hard and difficult times, only an insensitive clod
could lack sympathy for the unemployed and the millions of folks who
find themselves with crippling medical bills and no health insurance.
But there is a group of brave women who have endured pain, hardship
and deprivation that far surpasses any inconvenience suffered by all
those misfit slackers who lack gainful employment. Of course, I’m
speaking of the wives (and former wives) of once high-flying Wall
Street executives. Imagine, if you can, the arduous torture of flying
from New York to Los Angeles just to spend hundreds of thousands of
dollars of your husband’s money on closets full of designer shoes and
expensive jewelry. (Oh the humanity!) Add to that the pressure of
getting older and the constant fear that your big shot husband might
suddenly decide you are no longer “beautiful enough,” so he decides to
have an affair. How much can a woman take!?

As you read this account of “Lehman’s Desperate Housewives” by Vanity
Fair writer Vicky Ward, have pity for these poor women. In many ways,
the plight of being married to a Wall Street executive is just as
harrowing as a Jewish person being sent to Auschwitz or Buchenwald
during World War II - it’s pure hell.

How much can a woman take? Depends entirely on the lawyer she hires.
