Hows it goin everyone, I have a quick question. Say im in a SNG tourney,
Im dealt AQ on button but the table is kinda loose (party poker), flop
comes 3 undercards, say 2 5 9 rainbow, first position bets, or second or
third doesnt matter, what should i do w/ my two overcards, should i call
this bet or fold? Possibly raise? Post flop play has been a problem for
me, i do well in tourneys but i tend to play very passive and check fold
if the flop hasnt hit me. Some help would be greatly appreciated.

Probably you should fold. But, I'm going to list just a few things you left
out that matter. How many limpers were there preflop? Or was there a raise?
Did you raise preflop? If not, why not? What position did the limpers come in
from? Is this a limit or no limit SNG? What stage are you in? How many
players are left, are the blinds small relative to stack size, etc? On the
flop, did anybody check? How much is the bet? What is the pot? What are the
stack sizes? Has anybody called the bet?

All of these things matter.

I had almost this exact same scenario last night in a NL SNG.
I had 4 bets in front of me and folded. It worked out perfectly.
Remember, its PP. There are people who will play 59o!

No matter how well you play the hand,
there is always some punk or more at the table that will get you with
their crap hands.

My personal feeling about AQ (and even AK) in the situation you describe
is this: If you aren't the aggressor post-flop, you should probably dump
it, unless the bet to you is so small compared to the pot that it demands
a call. Without a flush draw, you've only got 6 outs to beat even a pair
of deuces. I've lost a lot of money calling/chasing missed flops with AQ
and AK. I'm not saying that your ace-high is not the best hand at this
point, but especially in a tourney, there's no reason to try and run
someone down with this kind of hand.

That's just my 2 cents.

I would raise if I can get a freebie on the turn.

Hey Gary, thanks for the help by everyone by the way. To answer someof
your questions, its a NL SNG, how would you play this situation if it were
really early in tourney compared to late in tourney, would you laydown
this hand late in tourney, and "chase" your overpair early on, since bets
are really small? I tend not to raise preflop early on because everyone
will just call, which makes pot bigger and allows marginal hands to chase.
this is party poker, ive been beat on some rediculous crap over there in
tourneys so i tend not to raise until later in the tourney. Id say there
are 8 players left still, how would you play w/ 8 left compared to 4 (one
out of the money)? What if pot is small compared to big. I appreciate
your thoughts on this one Gary, thanks for taking the time

I'd be more likely to call if the blinds were big compared to my stack, more
likely to fold early in a tournament.

You're making a mistake.

Specific stack sizes matter a lot here.

> What if pot is small compared to big.

Fold if the pot is small, think about calling if it's big.
