Does anyone know why there is no 1996 WSOP video?

Economics. They thought ESPN want too much to shoot it.

Gary:

First of all, nice to have you back on the forum. I have a question about the
1996 WSOP, regarding video coverage that perhaps you can answer since you were
there, and I was not.

It was my understanding that Binion's and ESPN were squabbling over money in
1996, which is why it was not "officially" covered. But I seem to remember a
conversation I had with Bruce Van Horn (who finished second to Huck Seed)
following the event. Van Horn was disappointed that his moment of glory was
never broadcast on televsion (for posterity, so to speak -- for his children,
grandchildren etc.). I'm sure we can all identify with Van Horn's
disappointment. But Van Horn also told me that there WAS a film crew going
around and doing a lot of filming, including the final table. He wondered
"what ever happened to that footage?"

My question to you is -- do you recall a film crew being present in 1996, and
if so, who they were? Also, based on your recollection were they filming the
final table consistently -- or did they just come in and shoot for a few
minutes? This is important because it's the only footage potentially in
existance fo the 1996 event.

Can you fill in the gaps here, Gary?

Thanks,

Nolan Dalla

On Discovery Channel, they have played one hour segments of WSOP '98.
All the segments seem to cover most of the final table. I never did
watch the credits to see which production company filmed it, but since
they run a Saturday night half hour on 'Gambling', some of WSOP
spanning 4 years gets shown. Might be worth checking the credits
there.

I don't remember off hand what film crew if any was there.
I can do a little investigating and get back with you later.
