Hoffman, who's a normal conservative, Republican Party platform
candidate, wasn't even in it a month ago. Sarah Palin endorsed him and
he shot up in the polls so fast that he knocked out the Republican RINO;
which was the whole point in the first place. It was a long shot, and
there was the danger of the vote-split which really did make the
difference in the final vote. But, Hoffman only lost by only 4% and he
wasn't even a candidate about 30 days ago. There was no primary, (as per
the N.Y. state election laws with regard to special elections) and
therefore a further disadvantage to Hoffman.
The chosen (by the Republican RINO chairmen of the N.Y. 23rd district)
Republican RINO candidate was endorsed by Daily Kos and ACORN. It was a
victory to knock her out of the race and send a message to the "McCains"
of the Republican party.
The Republican RINO dropped-out and then endorsed, Owens, the Democrat
candidate. Owens had been campaigning for a good long time with big
money and Democrat machine backing.
Also, this same seat is up for reelection next year in the 2010 mid-term
elactions. We'll see how long Owens holds on to this seat.
Plus, the 23rd district of N.Y. isn't conservative, just Republican. The
former Rep, (who was there for decades) who left office when he was
appointed by Obama, (causing the special election in question) to
Secretary of the Army wasn't a conservative, (Obama wouldn't appoint a
real conservative to anything). That's why Obama opened this seat up (by
pulling the Republican incumbent) for a Democrat run by Owens; it was a
toss-up district without the "power of incumbency" by the former,
non-conservative Republican.
The botom line: endorsing a Conervative Party candidate was absolutely
the right thing to do, regardless of the risk of outcome.
Sarah Palin and Dick Armey. etc., intend to do this (back the
conservative in the Republican primaries) in many districts thoughout,
in the 2010 mid-term elections. The Tea Partyers, Town Hall Meetingers,
and Christians will be asstisting in a grass roots-like effort. Michael
Steele, and therefore the RNC, will be backing this long overdue
strategy. Oh and don't forget FOX and conservative radio.
