ESPAN is covering the early rounds of Thursday and Friday, so all you
combat happy joes won't miss a minute of the action in this walking,
open-air chess game we call golf.

Note the clunky switcheroo scheduling between ESPAN and network coverage
of the early rounds though.

I suppose anything is possible, but given Tiger's meltdown at the
Memorial, and the fact that Merion is a relatively short course with
small greens which doesn't especially fit Tiger's game very well, I'd
say Tiger's fans might as well fast-forward to the British Open.

If Tiger Woods lost his expected short game and putting ability, as
indicated this week, he may as well skip the U.S. Open.

This is where Phil excels (short game/putting), but he's been having
trouble with the tee shots so far this year.

Rory is too good of a natural-ability player to play this bad for too
long; maybe a break-out at the U.S Open this year.

He revamped his entire game and put it all together for a few normal
weekly tournies

Whats going on with him is that he is inside his own head. (Jacks record
which he knows he will never reach unless he goes "all Tiger" again)

Who said bad putting wasn't mainly psychological? It's called "The
Yips," but it's mostly found with older players, and it tends to be
permanent; as with Arnold Palmer and Tom Watson.

Tiger Woods won four tournaments, just so far this year, mainly due to
excellent putting. So, I'm not so sure that he's "lost his putting."
Before this year, I thought that he definitely lost his putting ability,
but four wins is a convincing turnaround in the putting dept.

But, has he done it in the major tournments? No.

He putted pretty well at the Masters, which I still think he would have
won had it not been for the penalty controversy.

Tiger Woods wasn't that good in the Masters. The whole leader board of
players could have won, but weren't that good on the back nine, either.

Okay, first round tomorrow (Thurs.) and Tiger Woods and Rory are both scheduled to tee off at 1:14pm. So, it looks like they're playing in the same group for the first round.

Phil's teeing off at 7:11 in the morning, so you can catch Phil (who came in second in this last week's tournament) on ESPN'S early
coverage.

The coverage switches between ESPAN and NBC on Thursday and Friday, and then it's all on NBC for the weekend.

Damn, the first day with electrical storms with heavy rain. All tee
times are altered.

With the massive amount of players in the U.S. Open, it'll be chaos for
the first two days with flooded geens and fairways; until the cut makes
things manageable.

Phil, a -3 finish for day one, and currently leads. Tiger Woods and Rory
McIlroy just starting their round.

Phil leads the U.S. Open after day-three @ -1, the only player under
par.

Tiger Woods: 10 shots out of the lead.

Concerning Tiger, see my earlier post on June 3 in this thread. At
least now we know the alleged reason for the Memorial meltdown, his
elbow. Getting old is tough. He should have skipped the Memorial if
he was hurting, but I guess he thought he owed it to Jack. Hopefully,
for Tiger fans, a month will be enough to recover for the British Open.

Tiger Woods doesn't have an injury. Even the U.S. open announcers were
pretty much saying that he's faking it: they say that they've seen no
evidence at all in his play that suggests a wrist or elbow injury.

If he sucks in the British Open, he'll start grabbing his arm again all
of a sudden.

How about over five years without a major tournament win? The
wrist/elbow? How did he win four regular tournaments this year? Hummm?
