It's a religion with racist undertones, and that's being generous. How
many black Mormons are there in the US?

I think Romney will energize the black vote. He's a Mormon. He's not
concerned about the very poor (and willing to say so). He's toast.

Blacks couldn't even become Mormon priests until 1978.

How could a non-catholic vote for JFK?

"The LDS church has neither formally apologized for the priesthood ban nor
publicly repudiated many of the theories used to justify it for more than
125 years."

"In a 2007 Meet the Press interview, Tim Russert noted that Romney was 31
when the priesthood ban was lifted in 1978. "Didn't you think, 'What am I
doing part of an organization that is viewed by many as a racist
organization?'" Russert asked.
"I'm very proud of my faith, and it's the faith of my fathers," Romney
answered. "And I'm not going to distance myself from my faith in any way."
But Romney also said that he had been "anxious to see a change in my church"
and recalled weeping when he heard that the ban had been lifted.
"Even at this day it's emotional, and so it's very deep and fundamental in
my life and my most core beliefs that all people are children of God,"
Romney said.
Pressed by Russert, Romney refused to say his church was wrong to restrict
blacks from full participation."

In Morman scripture, black people are black because they've been cursed

That's really not comparable to, or as insidious as, a religious or
political organization that excludes or targets black people. But yes,
there is an undertone of racial prejudice in the sport of hockey that
surfaces from time to time (which is that many times too often). Let's
face it, black people aren't immune from racism in any endeavor in a
white-dominated society, even in something as wholesome and Canadian as
hockey.

But it's not right up there with "The church leaders and I were visited
by God this weekend, and He told us to start letting black people be
priests."

That was whopper of Mormonic proportions!

Why would God tell them to hate on black people for 150 years, and then
one day tell them to stop? Does that make any sense to you? And if it
did make sense to you, would you be mentally fit to be President of the
United States of America?

How many blacks are there in the US?

And what does any of this have to do with the issues that threaten to
ruin this nation? The nation is bankrupt, facing economic collapse,
is that supposed to have something to do with 1 out of 11 Americans
being black?

And if Romney, as president, fixes the economy, will blacks not
benefit from it just like whites will?

Most people are not even educated on the topic enough to know everything it
entails.

Most people are willing to lump it in with "just another Protestant"
religion.

Mitt Romney himself has gone a long way toward making people look into it
and educate themselves, but I think the masses remain sorely ignorant.

I think he's draped himself in his faith expecting political support from
the Christian right only to find that many people do NOT accept Mormonism as
a legitimate alternative at all.

"So then Christ traveled to the New World and lived among the Indians and
spread God's Word, conveniently leaving these Golden Tablets and extra books
to the Bible in a cave in the desert for us to find later."

Really, Mitt? You believe that?

What do you mean when you say the nation is bankrupt? That is Fox News
nonsense. The US is nowhere near bankrupt, but if you guys keep telling
yourselves that long enough, maybe you can turn it into a full blown
self-fulfilling prophecy! Fox News has half the country convinced that
economic Armageddon is right around the corner, and there are simply no
numbers to back that up. Yes, debt is getting on the upper end of where
you want it, but what did you think would happen if you started giving
every well-off person in America ridiculous tax cuts? The US isn't
facing any fiscal challenges it doesn't have the wherewithal to address,
but only if the political will is there to address them.

Romney is off in never-never land. He's going to close a $1.3 trillion
deficit by reducing revenue $400 billion? And he's going around telling
his idiot followers he's going to balance the budget? The first thing
I'd advise y'all to do is get a grip on reality. Seriously, that's step #1.

See? There are things we agree on completely.

Anyone who believes Mormonism completely is not mentally fit. However, I

convenience that may actually backfire if someone attacks him on it the way
he's attacked others.

This is what gets me -- so many religions require some leaps of faith, but
the LDS dogma is just so *profoundly* goofy I find it difficult to take any

The US is *still* pumping out $50k per capita (even with 8.3%
unemployment!). Debt service is something like 1.5% of GDP. How is that
bankrupt? To put that in perspective, if you were making $50k per year
but had to pay $750/yr interest on all your debts, would you consider
yourself bankrupt?

Would you loan a nearly bankrupt person $100,000 for 10 years at 2%
interest? Didn't think so. Then why do you suppose the world's largest
institutional investors are willing to give the US that deal?

Okay, assuming that's true, and I don't know that it is, who is buying
the other 10%? And how much is outstanding that isn't being dumped? I
heard Bill Gross was loading up on treasuries these days, but who knows.
The point is, 2% is the going rate. I think that is ridiculous myself
(and Warren Buffett agrees), but it is certainly not consistent with a
market opinion of impending bankruptcy. We've seen repeatedly over the
past couple of years that investors still flock to treasuries in a
perceived crisis -- even if the perceived crisis is a US downgrade!

You didn't answer my questions..who is buying the remaining 10% at that
ridiculously low yield and why? That's still umpteen billions of
dollars, right? And why aren't huge institutional debt holders dumping
treasuries en masse? And why are people still flocking to US Treasuries
in a perceived economic crisis? That doesn't seem like impending
bankruptcy to me. I've never heard of people rushing to get their money
into a bankrupt company on the first whiff of financial turbulence.

Do you have a point? I find Canadian history somewhat boring. So what?
If you find it interesting, you should write about it. Who's stopping
you? Is there something wrong with being interested in the history of
African-American social stratification in North America? Is that a taboo

I don't know who all is buying it, the point is, until recently, they
bought almost all of it, now they are only buying 10%. China has been
selling US debt and buying record amounts of gold. Russia has dumped

I read an interview with one of the first, and very few, Black NHL
players where he said that he had been well treated by the team he was
on and the players on his team. He also said that the opposition
treated him the same way they treated his teammates, which was badly.
He seemed fine with the whole thing.

If you want to talk about a candidate that was part of a racist church
doesn't the candidate that became our President come to mind? Sat in
those pews for 20+ years listening to a lunatic, racist pastor who he
claimed was his moral compass. No big deal there, I guess. Under the

Why should it?

The value of gold isn't up. It's the value of the dollar that is
down. And it's going to keep going down, as they print more and more
of it because of this massive debt.

All of the gold in the world would form a cube with 70-foot sides. That
would fit in a baseball infield. At current prices, that much gold would
buy all of the agricultural land in the United States. Now, which would you
rather have, all of the agricultural land in the US or that cube?

Now do you think gold prices are sustainable?

How could this be, Tad, unless we were sure we had mined every single
atom of it from the Earth? And still, what about future discovery of
the element on other planets or moons? If there is a lot of it on

Iceman, what is your fucking problem? Is gold SUPPOSED to "perform"?
Is it SUPPOSED to gain value? Why should it?

By the way, how did it "perform" if you were in ZImbabwe?

This the basis for your judgement, a South Park episode?

The Book of Mormon is about 300 or so pages. It is not the easiest
read, but it can be read in under a week. Instead of the SP digested
version, more people should read it, especially those who are
critical.

LDS is THE American religion. Its roots are American, its prophets
are American, it was written in the American language.

The OT is the bible that introduced the world to mono-theisim. The NT
ends with rapture, but what about after that? The BOM is the book
about survival in a post-apocalyptic world. Stock up and get ready to
meet your ancestors.

When JFK ran, the conservatives worried that the POTUS would be
beholding to the Pope. Yet, recently the GOP has become undone over
something, because Mr Obama didn't consult with the Holy See. My, how
times have changed. Looking forward to future coming Crusades. Think
history will remeber our time as the Shock And Awe Crusades?

My personal opinion: Whenever I hear a politician invoke the Name of
God, I wonder if he is deluded or he thinks we are all a bunch of
suckers. When do we get an agnostic president?

Then it's not a fucking investment, is it? Why should gold gain in
value? Unless it becomes more scarce, or the demand increases, then
why should its value change? By the way, it hasn't lost value either.

This is the reason? Not any sound economic reasons? Not any
civilization reasons? That our economy should somehow be bound to the
constraints of the amount of gold in existence or possession? That our
children should be borne of either the tyranny of deflation, or the
impossibility of economic growth? That the savers should be allowed to
constrain all economic possibility because they keep their hordes inside
the mattresses?

Mo, please don't be a moron.

Gold IS useless. It's also pretty and rare, which is why it fell into the
role of medium of exchange.

We have mediums of exchange now. We don't need a lump of metal to fill that
role any more

It's a long standing political tradition to invoke the name of god in
a political speech.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if most recent presidents were indeed
agnostic.
Not that they would ever admit it, though.
It would be a political death sentence.

Obama is a little different, though.
His particular god is Socialism.
If you look at what he does instead of what he says, you can see that
the "change" he had in mind is to turn this country towards
European-style Socialism.

Not the Communist model, mind you, but the kindler, gentler form of
socialism practiced in Europe.

Ironically, the Europeans are now finding out where that is leading
them (They have almost run out of "other people's money")

Obama is still Hell-bent on repeating their mistakes.

gold became an exchange medium because it's rare, durable, and portable.
gold will remain a medium of exchange because it's rare, durable, and
portable. try carrying 50 pounds of wheat to the "market" and trading it
for a leg of beef then carrying that home.

money's only good when the government manages it's finances, and our's
doesn't. amazing given the spending imbalances and economic implosions

Maggot the Faggot is so fucking stupid that he thinks that gold and
silver won't be accepted as money if the dollar fails and there is a
general societal breakdown.

OMFG! LMFAO! How fucking stupid do you have to be to think that???
If the dollar fails and there is a general societal breakdown, there
will still be a need for a medium of exchange. That need will
obviously be filled by gold and silver, which have been real money for
5000 years.

And tulips, don't forget tulips.

And Aztecs, don't forget Aztecs and all their gold. They instead used
cacao beans and quachtli, a type of cloth, as currency.
http://www.aztec-history.net/aztec_economy
I guess they valued farmers and manufacturers more than they did
miners. Their civilization lasted about 800 years or so.

One effect of using a gold standard is that the supply of money can
not outgrow the supply of gold. So even if there are great
technological advancements, no more money can be produced. Instead,
when there is economic advancement there is deflation. The value of
gold rises, the holders of gold see an increase in wealth, even though
they did not participate in the technology. More wealth for the
wealthy.

Tulips weren't real money for 5000 years. In fact, tulip bulbs were
never real money. You can't compare a brief speculative frenzy to
5000 years of history.

Yawn. Another howling satanic demon who hates gold. What a
surprise. As I have explained before, there is an occult
correspondence between metals and the "planets" of the ancients --

Gold = Sun
Silver = Moon
Copper = Venus
Iron = Mars
etc.

As I have also explained before --

Sun = RA = Father = Sun God

Moon = MA = Mother = Moon Goddess

Amazing how most people who believe in God also accept as a given that
gold and silver are real money, while howling satanic demons like you
and Maggot the Faggot react to gold and silver the same way vampires
react to sunlight and holy water.

Anything which symbolizes God, such as gold and silver, is anathema to
the minions of Satan.

Did you know there are 427 references to gold in the Bible and 285
references to silver?

The last reference to gold is Revelation 21:21 --

"And the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass."

As Bob Dylan said --

"Well, I don’t know, but I’ve been told
The streets in heaven are lined with gold"

And not all in a good way, huh? Like the one I just quoted.

The Bible was written so simple people could understand it. It uses
about 12,000 different words, whereas a college graduate could be
expected to have a vocabulary of about 10 times as many.

The Bible was written for simple people, people who didn't understand
the concept of stocks and bonds, of compounding interest, mutual funds
and international monetary market capitalization. Instead the Bible
uses words like gold and silver.

If you're basing your investments on Biblical readings then we have
nothing more to say; economics can not be argued with a true believer.

Gold and silver won't be worth a goddamn thing if the great chaos comes.
There won't be anywhere near enough food for anyone to give a flying fucl
about a metal that you can't do anything useful with. Gold became a medium
of exchange because of excess production. Without that, there's no damn
value to store
