Since you said "seriously", I will take your comments as such.
I don't know that moving at this stage of the game would be a good idea.
You'll have to talk to your therapist about that one. You seem to have
established a successful routine where you are. I don't think I would
risk upending that right now. You should wait until you are on sounder
footing before making any major life changes that aren't absolutely
needed. I certainly wouldn't quit my job (unless I was really miserable,
but I understand you are fairly happy there).
I don't think your assumptions about the immigration policies of the UK
and Canada are correct. In fact, I'm almost positive they are not. As
far as software jobs in Vancouver go, the only big software firms I know
of here are a couple of the big gaming outfits.
If you "like San Diego" and "Austin would be great" then it's clear you
don't actually "hate cities" and people. You just like to convince
yourself you do. It's a pretty obvious defense mechanism that you should
try to get to the bottom of.
I need more information:
What is it you HATE about LA? You said before you always lived in really
crappy neighborhoods (by my standards). What is your price range for
rent or purchase of a residence? In which part of the city do you work?
What significant impact does the California state government have on
your life?
My deal with Lake Elsinore wasn't about the city per se (although I do
honestly believe it's a pretty crappy place to live) but WHY you moved
there. Self-imposed isolation and imagined hatred of people and society
are pretty common symptoms of substance abuse. It's an excuse to become
more selfish than you already were. I had suggested that you move closer
to civilization, preferably closer to family, and get involved in your
community HELPING others, instead of convincing yourself over and over
how much you hate them. That's just an excuse to lock yourself in a room
and get drunk or high.
