All dealing staffs have a fastest dealer . Their results must be averaged
in with all the slugs and the "chatty cathys" (sorry razzo) as well as the
group who hold down the "middle" when it comes to production . Counting a
down for one dealer , no matter what their production, is meaningless . If
Gary P and I pushed a game (on and off) for 8 hours , I am certain that
there would be downs that approached or got to 40 an hour , but I doubt
that our "average" would be over 36-38. He is fast and exceptionally
efficient . I am (or was and could be if needed) faster and lack little in
proficiency . There are no dealing staffs anywhere whose dealers would
come any where near "AVERAGING" abilities we (and some others we have
worked with ) have . They dont make em that way anymore . When you throw
in the slugs and the "talkers" and the other stereotypical dealers we all
know , 40 hands an hour as a dependable average to be used for accounting
purposes is absolutely not happening , anywhere on Earth.
I have never claimed to be a good or great poker player but I can/could
hang with anyone when it comes to dealing poker ...EVER
I have done hand counts and worked with marketing people for the purposes
of determining revenues and promotion costs . I dont know what they make
on shrimp cocktails and buffets , but I know what goes down the chute and
why.
Will's (poindexters) field observations were EXACTLY in the range I
predicted . That is for good reason . No one in the entire thread ever
once mentioned the 'slowest" dealers production , which must be taken into
consideration when determining an average, as well as numbers of players ,
distractions and habits of players etc etc
and before anyone says " well if they got the worlds best dealers and they
put them end to end " .. just save it .. it dont work that way .
and before you open the discussion about what a shuffler adds to a dealers
production .. well just save that one also , although you might be very
surprised at those numbers as well

I like the auto shufflers, but I suspect they don't speed things up too
much. I've noticed over the last few years that people in general take
forever to make a decision. If the hand takes 5-6 minutes to play out
saving 10-15 seconds on the shuffle portion isn't going to speed the game
up too much. I used to never see people take 1-2 minutes to decide to call
a standard pre-flop raise with action behind them. Now, it happens more
often than it should. Probably a TVSM effect since we get to see everyone
go into the tank with QTo now.

My point was that many NL games move much faster than many limit games
since a lot of hands are over quickly and overall you have a lot fewer
decisions and actions. Except for very small NL games full of
donkeys, a lot of NL games rarely have more than 3-4 players involved,
have very few hands go past the flop that aren't checked down, and
have very few showdowns, and the only real delay is someone making a
big decision over calling an all-in bet or raise. That is why NL can
be much faster.
limit games today are slower , but limit games when all there was was
limit were very very fast
if some cub scout moron called ,saw the river and took 40 seconds to check
. they would have had someone throw something at them
and the limit draw games were extremely fast and the rules allowed for
absolutely no shenanigans
if it was your turn in SoCal and there was a 3 second delay , a player
would call "time" , which meant that he was going to take slightly longer
to act on his hand . but 'slightly longer" didnt mean time enough for a
sandwich
no one hollywooded .. no one went through the 40 question questionaire so
frequently seen today
