I recently purchased Super/System. It has been on my want list for a
while, so on a recent trip to Las Vegas I traded in some of my meager
winnings for a copy. It's a great book both well written and well made.
I have the second edition with the silver hardcover. I must admit that
while I'm reading this book primarly to improve my game it is also very
enjoyable as a historical document. With this in mind could anybody
provide more information on Joey Hawthorne. He seems like such a
colorfull personality yet unlike Mr. Brunson's other collaborators I
don't know much about him.

Thanks
John R.

Joey Hawthorne is gone, a victim of drugs, but my opinion of his play
hasn't changed.

What drug(s) did Joey Hawthorne die of?

Why is it that all these poker Gods kill themselves off by smoking crack and
stuff (like Stu Unger)? What are these idiots thinking?

I mean, the occasional toke of the "peace pipe" is one thing, but crack is a
whole different one.

[Note: It is considered VERY good luck to throw a quarter in the water
fountain at Foxwoods before playing poker. Make sure it is the fountain with
the Indian holding up his peace pipe to the Gods. Well, it always works for
me at least! ;) ]

Also,if anyone knows, when did he die and what year?Seems like so many super
talented people succumb to drugs ,booze, etc. But,so do many of us run of the
mill types too.Guess its an equal opportunity killer.
