I have never understood people that like having a drunk in the game.
I find they slow the game down way to much. They also destroy any type of
real action. Sure they will in most cases go broke but they can also
destroy your stack wiht those one card hits.
And the main reason I can not stand them is they smell so bad It almost
makes me sick.
If I am in a game and a drunlk sits nxt to me I get up and leave the game.
I just don't need it at all and if I never need money that bad I would
get a job.

Personally, I find pharma-junkies who post inane drivel to newsgroups far
more annoying.

Perhaps they're drunk. (Would that be 'running it twice?')

Gary Carson pointed this out some years ago and I disagreed (what a
surprise) However, I have since noticed that, by and large, he is
right about it. "Send another drunk to table seven" is a fun slogan
but the game slows down _so much_ that, in the long run, it isn't
worth it.

They also destroy any type of

This is silly. _Anyone_ who gets it in bad can win a lot of your money
if the one card hits but you still want this situation to occur and
recur as often as possible. Not wanting to be a big favorite because
you _might_ lose is Beldinoid. I'm sorry if that seems harsh.

On balance, I think you are right. In limit games, a drunk will slow
the game down enough that his bad play can almost never make it a good
thing that he's there. In NL a drunk is so likely to stack off and
lose his money that it is only the fact that he smells bad and
probably has other unsavory qualities that make me not want him
there.

This is not to say that a happy table full of people who are mildly
inebriated can't be fun and profitable but an actual _drunk_ isn't
worth the aggravation.

Youu misunderstood what I was saying. The whole tone of the table changes
and the drunk is in most cases gone before you see very many hands with
him.

i have never seen this to be the case at 1/2 NL. however, whenever
somebody is slowing the game down considerably, i start calling the
clock on them every single hand. they eventually get the message and
either speed up or leave themselves.

i never understood people who get aggravated by drunks there. they are
literally giving their money away and will keep on rebuying if you
encourage them. its quite a fun time to sit there and laugh at their
antics while you take their money. i booked a rather big win last week
because a few sat down and just donked off their chips to me over and
over.

Well, that is more realistic. It is amazing how rarely the favorite
wins in a hand posted to a forum.

I certainly do but I don't _tell_ other players about them. Why would
I want other players to know anything that might help them? If I
played on the sites you play on and you posted the actual screen names
of the idiots, your posts might be a valuable reference, which you
should NOT provide.

i am not sure Will DOES KNOW anything about poker . I think he knows a lot
about what poker is "supposed" to be

he sits here and 'snipes" at people who actually PLAY the game .

He is the first to say "stay calm" , when normal humans are ready to lose
their minds

he is the first to say "that is good for you " , when someone posts a beat
that rips their heart out , in a key spot , in a situation they feel is
important or worth sharing

i dont think he knows anything about "running bad" .

i dont think he has ever been "under pressure" I dont think he knows
anything about the "human " side of poker

I had a funny interaction with Brew in the last 2 weeks . Brew was at the
final table in a spot that was bigger than prolly anyone here has been in
, in a long time . I was railing him and goofing with some of the other
RGPers there .

brew was nursing a shorter stack and had just doubled up but he was still
in a spot where he needed to try to accumulate chips . he decided to
steal UTG

brew 'scooted" UTG with a really bad hand and he got caught and got broke .

I decided it would be "cute " to needle him about it ..you know ..
returning some of what I had recieved here .

As I got into full "needle" mode , brew 's response completely took the
wind out of my sails . he admitted that he was tilting and he said 'it was
a bad play "

Brew is a guy who has "been there , done that " . he admitted to being
human and he recognized a mistake , and did not spend 3 mionths trying to
justify it , as so many others here would have done .

Poker is a game played by humans , humans who are affected by the things
that happen to them in key situations or when they are under pressure.
Anyone who says that certain situations dont bring out our emotions and
our weaknesses tend to expose themselves ,doesnt know what he is talking
about

i will take a guy with "heart" and emotion and all the other traits of
being human , any day , any time , anywhere

i think Will is a very bright guy , who has never been allowed to be human
, and let his emotions rule the day . his constant portrayal of the calm ,
steady , voice of reason is quite frankly A PAIN IN THE ASS.

brew became a better player by handling what he had done with honesty and
candor

if i want to know about how to edit a book .. I will ask Will

if I want to talk to someone about getting your brains beaten out for
weeks at a time and how to deal with emotional shit and human shit , i
will ask Brew

the poker world is laden with "pseudo gurus" , who have made their niche
of recognition by always being the one to say "calm down" ,, "long term
math " .'things will work out " . i have seen em for 30 years ..They
contribute nothing

I will take a guy like Brew over one of these guys any day .

if I had to drive cross country with Will or with Brew?

Will wouldnt last till the county line till i kicked him out !

Brew and I might have to stop and fight along the way , but there is no
question which one I would pick.

And I think brew would be a shitload more fun to drink with

I just cannot imagine myself sipping martinis with Will..........I dont
like olives

For me I hate drunks period and drunk drivers should get the needle if

There is a difference between giving advice on forums and telling
people the names of idiot players. Also, I don't talk about poker with
the people who play in the games I frequent. There are exceptions,
some of them on here, but I _still_ don't give scouting reports on
their opponents.

I will always help people when asked. Sometimes it takes time due to my
pain issues.
But when I have a horse I run the show most of the time. I look at it as
it is my money I will make the calls. Mind you I am not a hitler I want
my horses to work with me and give their input.. Once agin I did not
explain it correctly.

I also have been known to read a hand history from a small tourney and
give my opinion of ones play. You do remember I helped Gambler AB before
his final WPT final table.

Normal human beings are the people who lose money at poker. And whine

We HAD a lot of local games until early last year. Then the games
started to shut down, some had legal troubles, and some people not
being able to run their games anymore for one reason or another.

The bar game (one tournament a week with some cash games afterward and
on another night) within walking distance of my place had me spoiled
but the cops closed it down quite awhile ago because the idiot running
it allowed underage kids to play. He didn't card anyone who didn't
order a drink. so I sterted going to the Mohegan Sun. I really used to
like Foxwoods better but convenience triumphs.

A valuable reference? C'mon. There are thousands of donks of FT and
Stars that play in these $1 MTTs. You really think there's value in
a list ofa few who played hands badly? If such a list existed, would
it even be worth the bother of checking it?

You are likely correct. The scale of online poker is not something I
was considering.
Besides, there are software packages that can give you a lot of
information without reading someone's posts.

It happens in bridge. An opponent takes a HUGE anti-percentage action

Well bucko, remind me never to invite you to my annual St. Patrick's Day

But I do show true idiot calls that don't suck out as well

I certainly do but I don't _tell_ other players about them. Why would
I want other players to know anything that might help them? If I
played on the sites you play on and you posted the actual screen names
of the idiots, your posts might be a valuable reference, which you
should NOT provide.

Why not?
We discuss play strategies.
I've got no problem pointing out the absolute idiots out there for you.

Top posting because this is a general disagree.
I like Will, I think Will knows a lot about poker.
I may disagree with him on occasion, but I'm sure he can handle himself in a
tournament, mentally and emotionally.

I'm not primarily a tournament player, although I played a lot of
tournaments around five years ago. I think you mentioned something one
or two posts back about having more time after you are knocked out and
that being the reason for the predominance of bad-beat posts. That may
be a clue to why such a huge percentage of bad-beat posts are from
tournaments too. Being bad beat doesn't knock you out of a cash game,
so you don't have any extra time to post. I had always figured it was
just that tournament players were whiny bitches.
