I wonder what causes those to appear.

FTP does it too. I first saw this on Party, who seemed to do it much more.
It will pop up a window that asks you to type in a Capcha, in order to
prove that you are a human and not a bot. If you fail to type in the
Capcha correctly, or don't respond, it will (probably) log you out of all
your games and may even lock your account, who knows.

No way, why did it take so long for something like this to happen?
i prolly have more hours than anyone here , playing anywhere from 5-8
games about 3-5 hours a day and I have never seen or heard about it until
now
i have also let others play my account and I have used others accounts and
played on theirs
how can that be ?

I'm guessing that your play is more creative and doesn't trip their bot
sensors. I think if play is more by rote, and there is no chat from you,
they are more likely to request a bot check. I've only seen it a couple
times on Stars, but I saw it almost daily at Party.
I'm getting all nostalgic now...I really miss Party. Remember that bug
they had in the rebuy tourneys where you could rebuy if you were all in,
whether you won the hand or not? I hope they haven't fixed that by the
time they come back to the U.S.

"creative". I like that word used here. Think Beldin has ever gotten
a "bot test"??

They pop them up on obvious human players so you'll tell us the story and
we'll believe that they would actually stop a bot. Misdirection, they mind
believes what the eye tells it.
