I think I played this just fine, but Mark "I'll Wait for AA Till I'm Down
To 3 BB" [Dipshit] disagrees. Like the true donks we are, we decided to
let RGP settle this. Did I play this right or not?

Also:

Diputsur: if you post that we were in disagreement over this hand...
Diputsur: make sure you tell em what you bubbled with last game too!
Diputsur: might be playing the este a little too strong...
Diputsur: doyle says AQ is a beginner's hand
Diputsur: you playing AJ like the nuts

It's true, two times before this, while 4-handed, I ate it with AJ.

Thanks for your input.

I fold there. He isn't going to fold to your push, and likely is ahead.
What can you beat, AT, KJ? Would he raise to 3x the BB with AT, KJ, QT,
QJ? I don't think so. He'd push with those hands. I can't see you being
ahead here.

What does a tier 3 SNG pay to... 4 places? (I assume so given the comment

opening range is either.

Based on what I heard, your reasons were that you hoped it was a coin flip
and that you figured he had a pair with a small chance of a bigger A and a
small chance of a smaller A.

If this is your thinking, I don't think there's anything more to discuss
other than to ask you why you want to voluntarily get your money in on the
bubble of a SNG with little to no fold equity and as an underdog?

What was your reason behiong the push?

I'm not the elite Donk that you guys are but i would call the bet for just
under 25% of my stack then check the flop and see what he does on the
flop. A small bet and I push. He pushes and I fold.

Let's see - no first in advantage, and you're probably behind, and he
won't fold.

Yeah, pushing there was brilliant.

On the face of it I don't like the play at all. AJ is not a hand I would
generally consider worthy of even calling a preflop raise with. However,
if the opponent in question had been playing particularly loose-aggressive
then I might consider taking him on and, given my stack and the blinds, I
would probably want to try and isolate him. Ultimately I cannot say
whether you played this right or not (IMVHO obv) without some idea of how
he had been playing prior to this hand. However, as you made no mention of
him being a LAG and adding the fact that you apparently have a propensity
for busting out with AJ it would seem reasonable to conclude that you
grossly over-value that hand.

I was playing a live tourney at Pechanga the other day (like, $50 buy in),
and heard a guy at the table next to mine say "Why does AJ always break
your heart?" and I looked up and said to my table "cause it is a crap
hand?".

I bet wtfbbq assumed he was about to pay off AK.

In my defense, my other plays with AJ were probably justified. The
first time I had about 2000 chips with blinds at 150/300 and I had
first in vigorish, and got called by the BB who had AK. The second
time I was so pitifully short stacked thanks to an AK on KK encounter
that I would have probably pushed with just about any two cards.

I would have to call that a bad play.. I don't mind going all in
w/AJ, but not after a raise. Only think about doing that if you're
desperate, and you're not desperate in this situation. Still plenty
of time to wait for a better spot.
