Someone please remind us again about how many people were
'stiffed' for how much total money in the collapse of Boyd's
"PokerSpot" Internet poker site... It would be interesting to
hear from Boyd himself at this time about his intentions...

Huh? Are you nuts? These are poker players. They've played with
killers, hookers, drug dealers, bank robbers, wife beaters, lawyers,
off duty floormen, writers, all kinds of lowlifes. Why would anybody
give a shit?

Hell, they've even played with authors of poker books. If that didn't bother
them, nothing will.

I like Dave's idea. Who knows what the consequences would be, but if I were
a PokerSpot victim living in Vegas, I think it would be worth the effort to
find out.
I'm sure if he wins at least, the media would pick up on the flier story.
Although I feel morally responsible for the debt, it is a corporate debt.
It's not personal
debt. I'm 22 years old and can't have it hanging over me my whole life.
If anyone wants to come meet me, I'm here. I'm not in hiding. I'm sitting
next to Phil
Hellmuth.

Your company?
You managed the company?
You were responsible with what happens to all the money?
You exactly knew what will happen with the costumers money even long
before the site closed?
For what did you use all that money? It was ABSOLUTELY NOT your money,
but the costumer's ones.
The first time you used this money (owned by OTHERs) for your own/company's purpose, you
stole it. Since you were the owner and it was your decision (in the case
this was really the case) YOU personally stole it, and it is perfectly
YOU who is responsible for the screwing of players there. Probably it
would be possible to reach you by law, when you used the costumers money
for your own/companies purposes.
Then again, there have been many costumers, why closing so suddenly?

Really, why not??
When money is involved, and stealing, you probably shouldn't expect mercy.

But for me, the most fitting statement about the poker world would be for Boyd
to win, and then to read the poker "journalists" gushing about his victory.
I suppose some people will at least be able to get some sadistic pleasure
from that....
rakefree.com - so you are opening shop again..
I am surprised to read that you are 22... as for hanging over your head your
whole life... you had an opportunity to get out from "under it"and players to
be made whole, you refused that option... your character will be "hanging" over
your head the rest of your life.

It was a fraud, not a corporate debt. That makes you a theif, no
matter what your age. You should have it hanging over your head your
whole life.
Even better is him finishing second and the poker press explaining how
he really can't afford to repay the people he defrauded, it would
leave him with less than a million dollars.

Did he permit the site to accept deposits *knowing* that there was little
chance of the depositer being able to make withdrawals later. Was there a de
facto Ponzi Operation running ? If the answers to these are *yes*, It IS
fraud and Boyd is a criminal. Most felons wish they weren't but, once
convicted, that status cannot be removed.

Yes. He didn't want it to happen. He didn't want to believe that it
was going to happen. He knew it was going to happen as surely as if
he'd have bet it all on double zero hoping to get lucky.
> Where's Ashcroft when we need him?
Shhh! Please...the last thing we need is Brother Ashcroft singing
hymns and setting his sights on internet poker.
Not only that, even if he wins, we will not get our money back. Ain't gonna
happen. Our only hope is that Hellmuth talks non-stop, drives him crazy,
and puts a tremendous beat on him.
I sure hope he busts before Lederer, too.

I'm not worried--karma is a bitch. Would you really want to win $2.5
million at the age of 22 and know that you're going to spend the rest
of your life wondering when you're going to get the bullet to the back
of the head that is the inevitable consequence of stealing $400,000
from a subset of people that are often not the more "charitable"
members of society? I think it's much better to be poor and safe than
be wealthy and know that you're a dead man. You'd have to pay me
hundreds of millions of dollars for me to want to be in Russ's shoes
right now.
I think we should organize a RGP dead pool on Russ. Who wants to set
an opening line on:
Whether Russ is dead before May 24, 2004?
Over/under on the date of Russ's death?
Lines on which person causes Russ's demise? (And for this one, do Mr.
and Mrs. Sunshine count as a coupled entry?)

I got the OVER. This is easy. Opening line of -300 OVER.
Russ is actually fairly astute and intelligent I gathered just from a
few email exchanges. He is well aware of anonymity tactics and
precautions.

Like trying to predict next Earthquake to hit America. Or Trying to
predict ones OWN death. Russ could get hit be a car tomorrow (By
Accident I mean)

He is being far too blaze with his "come and get me" attitude. I have
never stolen money in my life and have never owed more than a couple
hundred, and I can't imagine how much gall I'd need to tell people
"come and find me," particularly if I'd stolen money from poker
players. We're not talking about embezzling from the Little Sisters
of the Poor here.

These lines are terrible, because you are setting people up for a
great middle on -300 over May 24, 2004 and +400 (or +350, whatever)
non-natural causes, which would mean that Russ would have to die of
natural causes this year for the middle to miss.
