Going to Chicago starting this weekend. I've never been there and so I
don't know anything. I know they have boat gambling ... do they have
poker? Are there any gambling boats that's accessible via transit (as I
won't have a car?)

Thanks in advance

Best and closest to DT Chicago is at the Horshoe in Hammond Indiana. It
is also the busiest. Phone ahead to get on a list. Other options are
Majestc Star and Ameristar, also in Indiana. Illinois doesn't hae much
poker. There is a limit on gaming positions and a poker seat doesn't make
enough to justify the position.

Actually in Illinois would be Hollywood Casino, Aurora. I don't think any
of these are accessible by regular public transportation, but there are all
sorts of special buses--call the casino, I guess.

Potawatomi, in Milwaukee, might actually be the easiest casino poker room to
reach by public transportation.

Hollywood specializes in limit hold'em; Horseshoe runs more to no-limit and
Majestic Star has both (rough approximations).

Chicago-area public poker tends toward loose/passive.

His team of financial advisors are now working on how to best put all that
money to use !!

if they fuck up .. then his team of corporate lawyers will take over .

if they fuck up.. he will have his team of civil lawyers sue the other

The Potawatamee idea is in fact the best . there is a commuter train to
Milwaukee ( about an hour) and about 10 dollar cab fare right to the front
door of the casino

You can get to the Hollywood casino in Aurora via train. The casino is
less than a 10-minute walk from the station. I believe they offer no-limit
only on Sundays.

the horseshoe in hammond is the best poker room in the area - some say
it rivals the rooms in vegas. there are free shuttle buses from
various areas running 24/7. check their website at www.horseshoehammond.com

ill be there saturday.

i see a few people suggesting hollywood in aurora.. do NOT go there!
not only is it farther than hammond indiana, but the poker room SUCKS.
they close at 3:30 AM, they have to shut down tables if blackjack
action is demanded, and you will wait at least an hour for a seat even
if you call ahead. ive been to almost all of the rooms around here,
and the shoe is by far the best.

it's a very nice room if you don't have to wait (unusual). the games are
a little tougher than at the resorts, where i prefer to play.

resorts is one that i havent been to, but really how bad could it be?
i regularly have clowns calling my all-in overbets with gutshots. even
some of the people who are there every day are just plain awful. i
only stick to 1/2 NL though.

live poker is so much better than online for this and other reasons. the
play's horrible everywhere, but resorts gets the tipsy gambler types. i
always have a good time playing in that shithole.

"Come up to My Place," which is a musical comedy fan's way of saying that
Resorts East Chicago was sold, and the new owners (Ameristar?) didn't have
poker last time I was there.

I admit to a fondness for Hollywood, but a person who prefers no limit
should go elsewhere.

I love the limit 5/10 & 10/20 limit games at Hollywood. I live 15 minute
from Hollywood and love to visit Sunday mornings just as they are opening
up the room. I am not too big a fan of the Horseshoe and prefer Majestic
when I do visit NW Indiana. If I get bored with poker at Majestic I can
always go downstairs and find a low limit blackjack game.

On the subject of other things to do, last time I was there Horseshoe had
some full-pay Jacks or Better machines just outside the poker room--not a
common thing to see in the Midwest.

Not as uncommon as you might think.. at least at the dollar level and
above. It's a $ progressive at the Shoe. The meter doesn't seem to move
real fast, but I caught it slightly positive stopping in while returning
from a visit to the Detroit area last weekend. I gave up on poker after
about 5 minutes of being ignored at the sign up desk.
