Glad to see you not lowering yourself to their level.
I haven't written a book, but it would be cool to put on the jacket cover
"I'll bet it is a good one" if I ever do!
Doyle, some people need to climb on some other people to draw any attention
to themselves. These guys are longtime cheats, but apparently have somehow
also managed to be broke. Can you imagine having some of the abilities
these fellows speak of, and then also not having millions of dollars?
They are cheats who know something about cheating that they did. They know
a lot about cheating they did awhile ago, probably not much about cheating
going on today. They are trying to sell themselves, apparently because they
have found that their cheating can't support them. In doing so, since they
have always been without scruples, they assume everybody else is like them.
That is not very compelling evidence.
Take a couple weeks off from reading the group, or maybe you can get
yourself to do what I do, skip these cheating messages. There is still some
fun to be found on RGP.

Nice valedictory. Doyle knows when to fold a weak hand.
I've seen him play when things weren't going his way.
He has baited and berated young up-and-coming players
who were beating him.
It was sad to see them respect him and take his abuse.
"You want to be hero to the folks back home.
Why don't you write a book." He'd repeat this
gibberish over and over. That said...
I respect and admire Doyle for being the
world-class player that he is, even though IMO
he may have even, yes, done some things that
most of you would not tolerate.
Or better yet, just pretend to leave, that way you can still read what is
being written about you, but you don't have to have people wondering
why you aren't defending yourself.
Sob.... we'll miss you.

btw... You guys ever fix that plagiarism problem at your online cardroom?
I really felt sorry for you during that whole affair!
>If you didn't cheat I'm sorry that this happen. If you did cheat (and didn't
>want to Rat on others as you put it) I hope you just go away.
Maybe he just doesn't feel that the past needs to be gone over on the ng.
Maybe he doesn't feel like wasting time defending himself from pointless
accusations.
Maybe he thinks that if he stayed he would lower himself to the standard of
others and end up in posting wars.
Maybe he just has better things to do.
The guys at GCA could be posting about current things that might affect us, but
instead chose to attack people with reputations to "add credibility" to
themselves. While it might be entertaining reading to relive the past... it
does nothing but cause alienation and distrust.
Mike Caro and the others were right to distance themselves from these people.
Their approach is childish.
Their information weak...
and their intelligence lacking.

My two cents is that if someone were to be making these cheating
allegations of me, and they were nothing but false accusations, I
would fight them straight on and counter with facts that can be
verified. I wouldn't let my professional reputation suffer if I knew
that the truth was on my side.
I think that Brunson is letting the critics win and only fueling the
whispers of "Maybe Brunson DID cheat".
I've never had the honor of meeting Brunson, but I must say that
leaving at a time when these serious allegations are made is a move
that perhaps tarnishes one's character and personal fortitude.

The "truth"? Will you be getting to us with the "truth" anytime soon or
will we have to dredge through yet another mire of incoherent ramblings from
cheats from the '70s?
Something current perhaps? Something independently verifiable possibly?
Maybe even something that is both current and verifiable?
You know the deal, that pesky stuff like names, dates, witnesses; that
sort of thing.
--
The Baron
Here's a zany thought. Is it possible that the Internet doesn't carry a
great deal of weight with Doyle? I suspect there are a number of people in the
poker world who care about their reputation on the Internet approximately as
much as they care about their reputation among the tern population on Easter
island. To some, many perhaps, the Internet is simply not important.
Personally, I've never met him and unless things change drastically it's
unlikely I will. I suspect I'm a long time from being able to play at his
level and I don't get to make any regular trips to Vegas. I don't think that
any allegations I would make would carry a great deal of weight especially if
they were nothing more than inane prattle on the Usenet.
I'll take it at face value from all concerned until I find something
that not only makes a coherent and verifiable case one way or the other, but
is able to carry that coherence and veracity outside of the Internet. When
it's all said and done, I don't have any reason to believe Doyle has been a
cheat. He plays far and away better poker than would require someone to devote
the time away from poker to become a competent cheat. From what I've read of
him and from conversations with people who do know him, he doesn't strike me
as the kind of person who'd be willing to devote his time to something he only
intended to pursue in a half-assed fashion. It takes time, effort and
experience to be a competent cheat. From what I can see, Doyle chose to play
poker.

I did a little searching to try and get a feel for his contribution to
this particular poker community as this is the one mentioned in the
subject line.
Doyle on respect for Daniel Negreanu:
"you can't lose something you never had"
Doyle to David Sklansky:
"LOL-LOL-LOL....."
Doyle on his accusers:
"From 1-10 with 1 being the best, these jerks rate as 99"
Doyle on Gary Crason:
"Gary must be a twisted, sick person--glad I don't know him personally."
Doyle on Phil Hellmuth:
"Nobody said you were the source of the cheating rumors. You were just the
jealous, backstabbing, carrier of the rumors"
Doyle on Steve Brecher:
"Someday we will all be perfect, like you."
Doyle on Mike McClain who pointed out overt plaigiarism at Highlands (they
copied Paradise's ethics page -- even leaving in the Paradise references):
"be sure and practice safe sex and go screw yourself."
Doyle on a completely random thread:
"stick it where the sun dont shine"

Looks like you only walked one side of the street, who among us has not written
a "firey" post? Maybe you haven't, I have. We could have a field day with the
stuff Caro has written, things said in jest could easily be taken way out of
contexts... like his latest post on admitting to cheating (those of you not
following these threads closely, Mike was kidding about being a cheat). Phil
and Doyle kissed and made up, yet you didn't reference that post.
I went back and read some of Doyle Brunson's old posts, inviting people to
watch him play in live games at public places, his honest thoughts on the
passing of Stu Unger, yada yada yada...
He may not have given a lot of poker lessons (so what, buy his book). He did
speak his mind, give opinions and clarify a thing or two. Steve appreciated him
and perhaps some of Steve's words were over the top, so what... this is
America he can say what he wants... I don't think hero worship is a good
thing, but I also don't think that blanket selective bashing serves a purpose
either. (IMO) we benefit from diversity, even (and especially) when it comes
with one saying exactly what is on their mind... everyone complains about
these GCA guys slowrolling and dancing around and where is the meat, well -
Doyle certainly didn't have that problem.

I would venture that Mr. Brunson is still reading what is posted here, but

If you have AOL you can check if any member is online at a given time. It will
also tell you if they are in a chat room and available. It is not part of the
buddy list, but functions as part of Instant Messenger.
AOL is now offering DSL connections, for WIndows only. Since almost all AOL
accounts are still by dial up modem, there are few connections that are always
on.
I leave my dial up connected most of the time, so it sometimes appears that my
connection is always on, even thought it is not DSL.
Chris

In addition to what Chris said.... Unless I change my privacy preferences
anyone can see that I am online, if they put me on their AOL buddy list or AIM,
It shows when I sign on and when I sign off. I can alter who, if anyone can see
me if I want too. I can also make myself totally invisible so that no one can
see me. (But there are backdoors and you have to lock those or sneaky little

OK, it's just my warped sense of humor. Don't worry, I am not tracking you or

I remember some crazy commericial they had on radio. It was along the lines of

"I'm pleased to meet you, I've been waiting for this for some time." Good.
"I've been following you, Nancy". Bad.
As for any virus, I'm one of those diehards who refuses to give up on Apple and

Anyway, great things can also come from the ability to see people online. It's
a two edged sword of sorts. And when you are really bored you can put all the

It's because there's no evidence linking him to the things that have
been alleged. Doyle Brunson has been amazingly candid in telling us
what his creed is. He knows who the cheats are and what they've done,
but he says he won't share this information because he doesn't want to
break confidences and would like to continue to receive information in
the future.
He is out to protect his own games. That's a stunningly different
outlook than my own, but I admire Doyle even more for having the
candor to share his true beliefs on this. I imagine others share this
same creed, but wouldn't dare admit it publicly.
Doyle just wants to play poker and be left alone. He doesn't want to
be an icon -- even though it's clear to me he will always be one in
very many players' eyes, want to or not.
I've known Doyle Brunson personally since 1976. There is nobody else
remotely like him. If you were to sift through all the people you know
and put them into major bins according to similarities, there's no bin
to put Doyle. There's just nobody else like him, and I'm not even
speaking in a poker sense. If anyone has the book "According to
Doyle," read my introduction (or foreword). See the part about the
employee he caught stealing money. That's the way he is.

doesn't have a book available)

Sure there is.
No physical evidence. But there is circumstancial evidence in the
form of his personality and character. There is also testimonial
evidence. This non-physical evidence might be weak, might be
insufficiant for a criminal prosecution, it might not be persuasive to
anyone, but it is evidence.

So he's said what? That he has a partnership with cheats?

How does he protect his own games? Does he do that by cheating the
cheats?

Well, if I was cheating I'd want to be left alone to. I don't see how
him wanting to be left alone is particularly relevant.

Well, Doyle might be a unique individual. But, that's kinda not a
unique characteristic. It's a characteristic shared by most people.
Makes him kind of ordinary, doesn't it?

I'm sure you and his momma are real proud of him.
I'm guessing he got his character from his daddy.
When you and Slim and Sailor made your second trip to Las Vegas, did
you cheat? That's what I always heard. I heard that you got cheated
your fist visit and came back on the second visit to beat the cheats
at their own game.
You and your clueless son have managed to convince me that those
stories are probably true.

When I asked his son not to email me anymore this is how he responded.

I don't live of my Daddy asshole. And go fuck yourself I'll e-mail you
whenever I feel like it.
The not living off his daddy remark was about something I'd said about
a previous email he'd sent me where he said his daddy should have sent
him to the same school I went to. I said he should pay his own
tuition. The email exchange had been initiated by the Brunson boy,
not me.
I'm, of course, not going to fight the boy. If he wants to assualt
me, then I guess he'll just assualt me. It won't surprise me, after
all he's a Brunson.

What about the stories about you and Sailor and Slim Doyle?
Are they true?
I don't know if I have any friends or not Doyle.
But, I don't send my boy out to threaten people who ask questions that
I don't want to answer.
I don't react well to threats. I don't react well to threats from
your boy, I don't react well to your encouragement of his threats.
I asked you nice to get him to lay off. You gave me a trailer trash
crap response about how tough he is.
So, we won't be nice anymore.
I have no idea why anybody trusts you. There have been stories about
your cheating for decades. You admit that you're cozy with cheats,
basically do business with them. You claim Jack Biniion as a good
freind, a guy who at best ran a family owned caisno into financial
ruin thru incompetence, or as his sister beleived, ran it into
finaincial ruin by skimming, stealing from his family.
That's the kind of man you are Doyle. And, you picked the wrong man
to threaten. Go back in your trailer Doyle. You don't belong in the
company of decent people.

it's a good one. A collection of old Gambling Times essays, they
