...humor.

I read this forum not only for its poker content, but also for its
(moderate) entertainment value. It's a rare day when a post doesn't make me
laugh. But the quip would be banned at RGPM when the Bowdlers take over.

I'm also concerned when a good number of the people offering to be moderator
just happen to be some of the most humorless people I've ever met (and, yes,
I've met some of them at BARGE and elsewhere). Part of me thinks: "No wonder
these people want to censor humor. They haven't had a funny thought in their
life."

I'm sure some people want to be moderator out of altruistic purposes and are
well-intentioned. But I also gotta believe that some, consciously or not, will
get a perverse sense of satisfaction and a twisted feeling of power when they
serve as censor.

If they have their way, the new poker forum will be bland and lifeless,
restricted only poker content of the most tepid sort. So why don't they just
go to 2+2, which is already all that? Hmmm....could it be because THEY don't
get to be moderator at 2+2?

This is not true, (I don't know what a Bowdler is).

Just because you don't understand someone else's sense humor doesn't
mean they don't have one.

You may be right, I assume you think this because you feel you would
be affected that way. I don't feel I would be, and I am not
volunteering for any of those reasons. I didn't volunteer to be a boy
scout master and a camp counselor/handicraft instructor for 6 years
for any of those reasons. I know it is a hard concept for a poker
player, (esp. a professional one), to grasp. But there are folks in
this world to who the god almighty dollar or power over their fellow
human beings is not a major motivation in their lives.
Do not judge lest ye be judged.

I've only visited 2+2 once in 2000, and never returned. It sucked as
far as I was concerned.

The problem of course is that humor is so subjectively defined or
misinterpreted. Insulting humor can be some of the best... and can be
some of the most damaging.

This is a tough judgement area for sure.

That may be true, but whether that should prevent it from happening
is another question.

Yes. It's important that this be understood. The posting and moderation
guidelines determine the nature of the group, and posting guideline
45.b.ii(0.7) says, in part:

"Poker is a serious endeavor, and should not be confused with fun, humor,
play, or other frivolous or unnecessary activities. Therefore any post
which cracks wise, or induces giggles, chuckles, or so-called 'LOL'
activities will be rejected and the poster will be blacklisted until such
time as proof is provided that the corners of poster's mouth, either
individually or in tandem, have not ventured more than one millimeter
towards the ceiling for a period of at least three and thirty fortnights.
So be it, it is written."

If that is not the guideline being referred to, I pray thee, which one is?

See, Steve, wasn't that enjoyable to just write a funny post with no poker
content, a post that would be banned under RGPM guidelines (no poker content)?
C'mon, admit it: you loved it, you big lug.

OK, that's enough fun for today. All toys must be be put away immediately.

"1) Posts must be related to poker, including, without limitation,
strategies, news, events, personalities, resources, culture, venues,
education and information."

...which seems to me to easily include posts related to the nature and
future of r.g.p or r.g.p.m., including the [aw, shucks] funny post referred
to.

It's a (sort-of) backwards neologism, I think.

From www.dictionary.com

Bowdlerism

Bowdlerize \Bowd"ler*ize\, v. t. [imp. & p. p. Bowdlerized; p. pr. & vb. n.
Bowdlerizing.] [After Dr. Thomas Bowdler, an English physician, who
published an expurgated edition of Shakespeare in 1818.] To expurgate, as a
book, by omitting or modifying the parts considered offensive.

It is a grave defect in the splendid tale of Tom Jones . . . that a
Bowlderized version of it would be hardly intelligible as a tale. --F.
Harrison. -- Bowd`ler*i*za\"tion, n. -- Bowd\"ler*ism, n.

power over your fellow human beings? Ha! The original poster is right.

Do people have more or less freedom in a society with no laws, I wonder?
Depends on the person and depends on the number of laws, I'd guess.

Please provide a link to one post where I ever said I considered
myself a socialist. You have tried, as best your feeble mind will
allow, to paint me as such. But I can be, an often am, the most anti
social bastard you will ever met.

Are you kidding? You do a pretty good job of painting that picture yurself.
You've said this to me more than a few times. You even called yurself the
"singing socialist" I think. You say that I have a feeble mind? Shit, you
can't even remember that you stated you were a socialist more than a few
times. Wtf, yur gonna hit the big SIX OH in three more years, no wonder you
can't remember. You old buzzard. Even Octo's got a better memory than you
and he's practically a cadaver.

Sam, I'm gonna miss you. Please drop me a line from RGPM once in awhile.

Hate to say this Paul... but you are a liar. Provide the proof of me
saying that or STFU. I used the word liberal many times but I never
said I was a socialist. I have no idea what you are talking about
"singing socialist unless it was some sort of a joke or retort to one
of your attacks.
I am done with you, permanently.

Dear Sam,

Please forgive my boy Paul. I don't know where I went wrong when he was a
boy. I know he has a filthy mouth and do not know where he picked up such a
bad habit. But if there's one thing he is not is a fucking liar. If he
says that you have said you are a socialist then it must be true and perhaps
he does not want to wade through the gazillion fucking posts of yours to
prove that YOU are the fucking liar.

Please check this link below. It is my daughter, Paul's sister, and some of
her homegirls. Her name is Tiny. She is the pretty one. She says to take
your ass over to RGPM, mister all-of-a-sudden-moderated-phoney, you friggin
sissy, before she kicks your dumb albino ass if you talka the bad words
about my boy. You fucking socialist.

http://www.rwor.org/s/dispatch-e.htm

warmest regards,
-Paul G.'s mother

PS: Tiny has also reminded me that you once said you approve of the mobs
beating and killing farmers in Zimbabwe and using the Necklace which is a
tire placed around the victim's neck and doused with gasoline and then lit
on fire while the mob dances and cheers around the agonizing victim as he
dies. Tiny says that you had the nerve to post a couple days later about
Paul's lack of empathy for the homeless.

I can understand his anger. I'd get pretty pissed also if someone kept
calling me dumbass. Especially if it were true. Although I've never really
objected to being called a nutcase. And that's true. So I dunno. Go
figure.

For what it's worth, I do not like "the box". It is cold and lonely and I
end up giving names to the roaches.
